2019 RECAPS: 4TH PLACE

2019 RECAPS: 4TH PLACE

4TH PLACE: KingoftheNorth Shore (7-6):

Coming in 4th place with a regular season record of 7-6 and 1,506 points for (8th most) is KingoftheNorth Shore owned by Robby D.

What Went Right:

Derrick Henry and Amari Cooper carried Rob D’s team all year long. Amari was Rob D’s 3rd round pick and he’s currently WR8 in our scoring. He’s caught 75 passes for 1,097 yards and 8 TDs which comes out to 13.7 fantasy points per week. That figure was a lot higher before he got injured and had some down weeks late in the season. (0 in Week 12, 2.4 in Week 15, 4.4 in Week 16). He did have some monster games to make up for it though: 22 in Week 1, 24 in Week 3, 39 in Week 5, 28 in Week 10. While he lacked consistency, he was a solid WR1 for Rob D.

Derrick Henry was the better of the two and is RB4 at press-time. He missed this week’s game, but even without Week 16 he’s totaled 1,500 totals yards on 290 touches and 15 total TDs. For the most part he was amazingly consistent, putting up 13 or more points in all but 2 games. Like Amari he had week-winning upside, putting up 30 or more points in 5 separate games. For the last time I’ll admit that I chirped Robby D for this pick in the draft recaps and for the last time I’ll admit I was wrong. Dead wrong.

Not that Robby D had any say in the matter, but “points against luck” was certainly on his side. He had the fewest points against at 1,421 or about 109 per week. I noted in a prior recap that 121 points was the weekly league average by each team. Robby D’s opponents only exceeded that mark in 2 of his 13 games. The 1,421 were over 100 points fewer than the next team (Frader) and over 340 fewer points than Tieg had scored against him.

What Went Wrong:

Losing in the second round of the playoffs was #1. Robby D put up 85 points which was one of his lowest scores of the season.

What else what else… Robby D’s first two picks were some of the biggest busts in fantasy football. David Johnson was the 4th overall pick and is RB36 in our scoring. He only has 345 rush yards and 2 TDs on the year – eeek. Both of those rushing TDs came in Week 6 or earlier and 298 of the 345 rush yards came in Week 6 or earlier. It was just a really really REALLY weird year for Johnson. He started out hot and was a good RB for the first 6 weeks – averaging 20 points per week. Unfortunately for his owners, he got hurt, lost his job and scored just 20 points the rest of the way. 20 POINTS TOTAL SINCE WEEK 6. Real bad break for Bob D.

JuJu was also a bust – his 2nd round pick is WR63 on the year. After catching 111 passes for 1,400 yards and 7 TDs last year, he has 40 catches for 546 yards and 3 TDs this year. A lot of it is due to injuries – he’s missed at least 4 games. A lot more of it is due to poor QB play as he’s only averaging 8.4 points in games he does play. Then again, how much of it is due to the absence of AB? That’ll be an interesting question for draft prep next year.

Robby D’s Week 11 performance may have been the worst performance in league history. He scored just 42.7 points which seems unfathomable given our scoring and the points people put up in today’s NFL. Just to be sure and because I need to focus on something other than work or how much I suck at fantasy football, I had to dig into the numbers and see if it was.

The only other comparable game in league history is Dylan’s performance in Week 2 of 2012. Dylan scored 20 points with a full lineup when the scoring was: quarter-PPR, no points per carry, no points per completion and no fractional yardage. Let’s see how Dyl’s guys did with that scoring and how they would do with our scoring:

Note: I remember now that the quarter PPR was kinda fucked up because we didn’t have fractional scoring – same with yards. The only way you’d get 1 point is if you had 4 catches. 9 yards was 0 points, 19 was 1. How we have evolved...

**LONG STORY SHORT: DYLAN STILL HAS THE WORST PERFORMANCE OF ALL TIME.

Genius Move:

Deshaun Watson in the 6th was a great pick. He’s a top 3 QB in our scoring and while he’s had some dud weeks, he’s also put up weeks of 34, 33, 52, 36, 21, 22, 25, 32, 30 and other solid ones.

Deebo Samuel was a solid FA add on November 20th for $15. Since then he’s scored 12, 13, 14, 4.4 and 14.5 points.

Dumbo Move:

Ehh not too much here, but I’d say the worst move Robby D made was not making any moves. On the year he only had 9 free agent add/drops which was lowest in the league. The next fewest was 17. Even Guy had 21 and he just quit (in fairness I’m pretty close as well).

Pre-Season Prediction:

“I say Robby D finishes 5-8 and misses the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row.”

Wrong wrong wrong. 4 correct, 3 wrong.

Final Thoughts:

Any time you make it to the semis it’s a successful year, so props to Robby D for exceeding expectations. He overcame the loss of his first two picks and made a deep run into the playoffs which is not easy to do. While he couldn’t be bothered to set his lineup for the 3rd place game (started Derrick Henry who was ruled out), I’m guessing that had something to do with having 3 kids and it being the weekend before Christmas. Regardless, a solid season and something he can build on in 2020.
