GWBL - 2021 Season Recaps - 7th Place - Ken

7th Place: Covid Dak-Cine - Ken - 7-7 record, 1,691 points (7th most):

What Went Right:

Jonathan Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, Jonathan Taylor. The man the myth, the best RB in football was the main bright spot of Ken’s season. The #1 RB in our scoring has totaled 393 fantasy points or an average of 28 per week. AVERAGE of 28 per week. The only player in fantasy who has scored more points than him is Josh Allen, besting Taylor by just 3.3 points. Taylor is the only non-QB in the top 8 of fantasy points scored. As I mentioned he’s scored 393 points - the next best RB has scored 301. Quick math - that’s a difference of nearly 100 points. WOW.

You know how Cooper Kupp is the MVP of football? Well, Taylor has scored 66 more points than him in our scoring. WOW.

Kenny nailed it with his first two picks - his second pick was Travis Kelce. Kelce is TE2 on the season and averages 14.5 points per game. He’s scored the 24th most fantasy points… as a tight end. Another 1,000 yard season on his way to a Hall of Fame career.

What Went Wrong:

The result of his season was pretty unfair as he was the only team to finish .500 or better and not make playoffs. Our regular seasons used to be 13 games and a 7-6 record was good enough to make the playoffs 9 times out of 10. I had a feeling that the 14th week would screw over some people this year and sure enough - Ken lost in Week 14 and missed playoffs.

Not only did Ken lose Week 14, but he actually lost both of his last 2 games. He was sitting at 7-5 through 12 weeks and in great position to make playoffs. Win 1 of 2 and he’s likely in. Sadly for him, he lost both. The Week 13 loss in particular was rough - he lost 117-126. Travis Kelce had one of his worst games of the season that week, a 4.2 point effort. Despite getting 60+ points from Taylor and Sony Michel, Ken only put up 117.

A few other tough losses that made the difference: 121-126 loss in week 9 (my team, sorry ken) and his week 10 loss when he put up 152 but lost to dylan.

Dak was pretty awful this year. Ken drafts him every year and he let him down this year.

Juju got hurt pretty early in the season (8th round pick).

Ken took Michael Thomas in the 10th round and ultimately got zero points from him. Michael Thomas is a bunk bitch.

Best Owner Move:

D’Andre Swift in the 5th round was a great pick. He’s still RB17 in our scoring despite missing the last 3 games. He put up 20+ in 6 of the 10 full games he played and will surely be drafted higher in 2022.

AJ Dillon in the 11th round was another solid draft pick. It took him a while to get going, but he’s put up 10+ in 9 of his last 11. Like Swift he’ll be drafted higher next season. (Would be a great keeper if we did keepers.)

Worst Owner Move:

Allen Robinson in the 3rd round was a terrible pick, sorry Ken. He’s WR92 and has failed to register 10 fantasy points in any game this season.

ESPN Projection:

Another one that ESPN got wrong. Ken Was ranked as the #4 team after the draft, but he finished 7th. ESPN shooting about 50% so far.

Final Thoughts:

This is the 2nd year in a row that Ken has finished as the 7th seed and 1st man out of the playoffs. That has to be frustrating. Every year he has a stud or two and comes close to playoffs, but every year he seems to come up short. We’ll cut him some slack (some “dak”??) for this season given the whole “3 kids under 2” thing, but fans of the Dak-cine will expect results next year. (And hopefully a team name change because if covid is still relevant by August 2022 I’ll pull a tobin leap.)
