GWBL - 2022 - Week 4 Updates (Part 1)

Gentlemen and everyone who’s fantasy team is better than mine this year: welcome back to another installment of GWBL entertainment. As with last time we’re just going to check in on each team and touch on 1-2 themes. From best to worst:

1st Place: I LOVE KISSING TDS - Kev (3-1):

When I was writing the preseason predictions I actually had Kev winning the league until I saw Dylan’s team. I did say he’d make the finals though, so that prediction is looking good right now. While I’ve been wrong about pretty much everything in fantasy this year, it’s nice to know my prognostication skills haven’t gone completely out the window.

So what’s going on with Kev’s squad? The first thing that pops out is that his RBs are carrying the team. Mccaffrey may not be putting up numbers like he did in 2018-2020, but he’s still averaging 22 a game and hasn’t had a game with fewer than 17.7 points. Aaron Jones has been boom or bust, but his 38 point outburst in Week 2 and his 21 point game in Week 4 have made it worthwhile. The most unexpected source of production is Josh Jacobs though. A lot of people wrote him off before this season and he fell to the 6th round in our league. In hindsight it makes no sense - he was the clear #1 RB on a team that was supposed to be good. Hindsight means nothing though, the fantasy football experts were dead wrong on this one. (Maybe it was partly because his 5th year option was declined?)

Aside from the RBs it’s been steady production from Mahomes and boom/bust weeks from his WRs. Seemingly one of his WRs - Mike Williams or Amari Cooper - goes off every single week. Anyways a great start to Kev’s season.

2nd Place: Jimmy2Times n the Mafia Don - Dyl (3-1):

As noted above I predicted Dyl would win the league. Through 4 weeks he’s got a 3-1 record and is top 3 in points so it looks like a good call by Commish. I have to take some morale victories this year since I won’t be getting any actual victories. Anyways despite a dud in Week 4 (111 points), things are looking very positive for Dyl.

His team continues to be paced by Josh Allen (QB2), Justin Jefferson (WR4) and Mark Andrews (TE2). He’s also received big contributions from Amonra St. Brown and Breece Hall, who appears to have broken out.

The Breece Hall breakout is critical because Dyl just lost Javonte William for the season. RB is the one single weakness on Dyl’s roster so that’ll be something to watch.

Dyl’s also getting some reinforcements pretty soon - Deandre Hopkins only has 2-3 more games on his suspension and Brian Robinson might be back in Week 5. Yes, the guy who got shot twice about a month ago, he’ll be back soon. What a legend. I think that covers it for Dyl, nothing else from me here.

3rd Place: - Tool Time - Rob D (3-1):

Not going to bring up the fact that I was wrong on Robby D’s prediction, don’t need to dwell on yet another mistake right now. Anyways it’s been a great start to Rob D’s season despite the fact that Jonathan Taylor hasn’t lived up to the expectations of a 1.01 pick. He’s actually RB17 on the year and is dealing with an ankle injury, so stay tuned on that.

While he’s not getting production from the primary source, he’s getting a TON of production from unexpected sources. Christian Kirk is a top 10 WR and has 19+ points in 3 of 4 games. He just got 30 points out of Jamaal Williams, while Deandre Swift owners everywhere threw up in their mouths. Finally, Jaylen Waddle is a top 5 WR despite a poor outing last Thursday. Waddle was kind of the “Josh Jacobs of WRs”. Fantasy experts were knocking him all draft season and driving his cost down, but he’s been nothing short of spectacular through the first month. (Waddle was a 5th round pick.)

A few more notes:

  • Chubb and Kelce have been dominating for Rob D. Kelce is TE1 and Chubb is RB1

  • Dak Prescott could be back soon. QB is the one weak spot on Rob D’s team so this is bad news for everyone else.

All good so far for Bob D.

4th Place: Hill Bill - DMO (3-1):

His first two seasons in the GWBL were not kind to DMO, but he seems to have figured it out this year. He’s off to a great start and has two weeks with 151+ through 4 matchups. Lamar Jackson and Tyreek Hill continue to headline the Hill Bills. Those two players alone average more than 58 points a week.

While Najee Harris has been a bust, DMO is getting a ton of production from his midround RBs. Miles Sanders (8th round) is RB9 on the season and just scored 38 points. James Robinson (12th round) is RB12 on the season and has 4 TDs. Last but not least, Devin Singletary (7th round) is providing usable flex numbers - especially the last two weeks when he’s scored 26 and 14 points respectively.

As an aside, the fantasy football “experts” really blew it on the RB position this year. They naysayed all of these mid round RBs who are producing, while telling us to draft Cook, Kamara, Mixon, Swift, Montgomery, etc in the early rounds. Way to go to dickheads.

I will note that DMO is 3-1 despite being 6th in points scored. That’s partially due to the fact he has the 2nd fewest points against. Also due to the fact that points for/against is a small sample size. A few outsized weeks (like Keetz 208 this week) can really skew things.

That’s all for DMO. Really tough matchup against the Super Coopers in Week 5, so we’ll see whether his team is legit or not.

5th Place: Super Coopers - Keetz (2-2):

Speaking of the Super Coopers….First off I have to congratulate Keetz on his ridiculous 208 point performance in Week 4. I’m fairly certain that is the highest score by any team in the history of the GWBL. He only got $10 for it, but this performance will live on for eternity.

TJ Hockenson is the player of the week for Week 4 - he put up 42 fantasy points on 8 catches for 179 yards and 2 TDs. He scored 42 in week 4 when he had only scored 24-25 points in the 3 previous weeks combined.

Tee Higgins was another stud in Week 4 - 27 fantasy points on TNF is a great way to kick off the week. Keetz also got 23 from Burrow in the same game so he kicked off the Week with a 50-12 lead. Must be nice.

One thing I want to point out is Saquon Barkley. What a turnaround for this guy after 2-3 terrible seasons. The 3rd round pick is RB2 on the season and has 3 games with 25+ points (one 40 pointer). The usage is the most noteworthy piece here - he’s averaging 21 carries and 4 catches per game. With these current figures, he’s on pace for 350+ carries and 64 catches. He’s had some pretty good matchups so far, but it seems that Saquon is fully back.

While Keetz is firmly in the middle of the standings, he’s a no doubt playoff team and a serious threat for the title.
