GWBL - 2022 - Week 2 Pulse Check
Welcome back for some more GWBL entertainment. It’s been two weeks since we checked in on the teams, so I think it’s time for a pulse check. Working from the strongest pulse to the weakest:
1st Place: Jimmy 2Times & The Mafia Don - Dylan (2-0)
I predicted that Dyl would win the league and that prediction is looking very good right now. Josh Allen is a cheat code and has 74 fantasy points through 2 games. He looks unstoppable this year and I won’t be surprised if the Bills go 17-0. They look that good.
People slept on Amonra St. Brown a little during draft season, but he’s been the #4 WR in fantasy so far. Dyl’s 6th round pick put up 42 in Week 2 which is more than Davante Adams has all season. I feel like Amonra is the Deebo of this year - some team in each league was fortunate enough to take him at his ADP despite a few red flags and he’ll carry them to the playoffs. Oddly enough Dyl had Deebo last year.
All in all I think it’s going to be a wire to wire victory for Dyl this season. His high end draft picks are destroying everyone and his mid round picks are turning into superstars. He’s also leading the GWBL in points scored.
2nd Place: Tool Time - Rob D (2-0)
Here’s a prediction I got wrong, but I should know better than to doubt Rob D’s serendipity in this league (1.01 overall pick for example). Despite getting just 9 points from Jonathan Taylor in Week 2, he still put up a GWBL high 182. Jaylen Waddle is a big reason for that - he notched 42 fantasy points after scoring 18 in Week 1. Just to remind you…. Davante Adams has put up 41 combined points in two weeks. Hooray.
Another WR of note - Christian Kirk. Kirk is on a mission to earn that giant contract he signed this offseason and he’s off to a good start. Rob D’s 9th round pick put up 20 in Week 1 and 26 in Week 2 out of the FLEX spot.
All of this success comes despite losing Dak Prescott to injury in Week 1. He overcame that injury in Week 1 with some points against luck, but this week he hit the waiver wire. His streamer was Carson Wentz and he got a casual 34 fantasy points. Solid.
3rd Place: Aiyuk Talkin to Me? - Frader (2-0)
The 2021 Gabriel is off to a hot start, with a 2-0 record and the third most points scored. Frader, Rob D and Dyl are the only teams to surpass 300 points in 2 weeks of play. 2022 is “The Year of the Wide Receiver” and as with our other top end teams, Frader is getting insane production from that position. Stefon Diggs is the leader of the pack and he actually leads ALL PLAYERS in fantasy points. Somehow he has more than Josh Allen which is a statistical anomaly considering….. yanno, all of his throws come from Josh Allen. Then again Allen sat the 4th quarter last night so maybe not. Anyways Diggs put up 47 points last night which makes me want to cry. Among many other things through 2 weeks.
Everything is looking good for Frader so far, but there’s one cause for concern… Justin Herbert suffered a rib/back injury in Week 2 and his play dropped off quite a bit after the injury. The waiver wire isn’t looking great at QB so fingers crossed it’s not a serious injury. (For NFL purposes, fuck fantasy.)
4th Place: I LOVE KISSING TDs - Kev (1-1):
It’s always fun to write about the success of the team that just tore you a new one. Sooooo muchhhh funnnnn. Anyways Kev rebounded from a week 1 loss to put up the 2nd highest point total in Week 2. Usually 177 would get you the $10 weekly prize, but not this year. Not during a period of rampant inflation and supply chain shortages. Gotta love when Kev puts up 121 in Week 1 then 177 against me the next week, gotta love it. Oh yeah, also have to love how Mike Williams and Amari Cooper combined for 52 points against me…. after combining for 7.7 in Week 1. Not fucking pissed about that at all, nope. Life is fair.
Another thing I noticed is Christian Mccaffrey’s usage. He went from 14 touches in Week 1 to 19 in Week 2, which helped ease the fears of the owners who took him with a top 3 pick. Still, that’s lower volume than he’s seen the past few years (when healthy). Will the 19 touches be his ceiling? His average? Or will his usage get back to old levels where he was in the 25 touch range? That will be interesting to see.
All in all a good start for Kev, but time will tell. Is he the team that put up 121 in week 1, or the team that put up 177 in week 2?
5th Place: Super Coopers - Keetz (1-1):
I was shocked when Keetz took Cooper Kupp #2 overall, ahead of Mccaffrey and Jefferson. Yet again I was wrong (a leading theme of 2022) and Kupp has been worth the price of admission. And then some. He’s 2nd in WR scoring behind Diggs and has 100 yards plus a TD in both games. Cooper Kupp is the man, that is all.
Saquon Barkley appears to be back and that is huge for Keetz. He put up 40 in Week 1 and followed it up with 16 in Week 2. The most promising thing is volume - 24 touches in both games. He already has 9 receptions which would put him on pace for 76. For reference Mccaffrey is only on pace for 68. Small sample size of course, but it’s really promising for Saquon owners. Let’s not forget his rookie season when he caught 91 passes.
It looks like another strong year in the league for Keetz. I’ll leave you with a fun tidbit as we close out the top 5 teams - Keetz scored 148.9 points in both week 1 and week 2. Stats are cool.
