2020 Season Recaps - 8th Place

8th Place: Rollin With Mahomies (5-8) – Darren Moran

Coming in 8th place with 1,592 points scored (4th) is Darren Moran.

What Went Right:

DMO got off to a hot start in his first year as a member of the GWBL. He drew the #1 pick, got two players on the Chiefs offense (Mahomes/Kelce) and won his week 1 matchup. It looked like DMO was going to make waves in his first season and then….. eh we’ll get to that later.

Speaking of Travis Kelce – he was the MVP of DMOs squad. The Chiefs TE lived up to his 2nd round draft pick and then some, finishing as the #1 TE in fantasy. He averages, yes AVERAGES 19 points per week and has totaled 272 fantasy points. If he was a WR he’d be WR3 ahead of Stefon Diggs and Calvin Ridley. WOWZAH. Taking it further, if he was an RB he’d have been RB5, just ahead of David Montgomery and Aaron Jones. Decent players. Wowzah indeed.

Although he was eliminated from playoff contention, DMO had a strong end to the season and avoided the Gabriel. He took down two playoff teams in Week 12 (Rob D) and 13 (Frader) and salvaged an 8th place finish. Gotta respect that hustle late in the season.

What Went Wrong:

DMOs running backs absolutely killed him this year. Christian McCaffrey was probably the most frustrating #1 pick in recent memory due to his various injuries. He suited up in Weeks 1 and 2 and was great, averaging 29 points per week. He got a high ankle sprain and missed the next 6 games before playing in Week 9. He put up 35 points in Week 9 and everyone thought he was back…. Until he was reported to have a shoulder injury. That shoulder injury eventually turned into a quad injury and when it’s all said and done, McCaffrey will only play in 3 of 16 games this year. Something must have happened behind the scenes because this is one of the weirdest injury sagas I’ve ever seen.

James Conner was his other RB and he also frustrated his owners. The first pick in the 4th round isn’t even a top 20 RB and has a grand total of 683 rushing yards on the season. He had a few big weeks, but his season was marred by inconsistent production. He put up 3.9 in Week 1, 4.8 in Week 9 and 8.4 in Week 10. He then missed Week 12/13 with coronavirus before putting up a solid 3.8 points in Week 14. Once thought to be the LeVeon Bell replacement in Pittsburgh, I’m not even sure he’ll be a top 50 pick in fantasy next year.

Aside from that I have to say points against. DMO had the most points against, which is awful bad luck.

Preseason Prediction:

I predict DMO goes 7-6, gets the bye, and wins the title over Kenny Peabs. If he gets the first overall pick in his first season, then why can’t he win the title in his first season?”

Damnnnnn, 1 for 3 now.

Final Thoughts:

Although it wasn’t a perfect start to his GWBL career, it wasn’t that bad either. A 5-8 record was only one game out of the playoffs and had he won another game and finished at 6-7, he would have beat Frader on a tie breaker for that 6th seed. Either way I think everyone is pumped to have DMO in the league and hopes his tenure is a long one.
