2020 Season Recaps - 9th Place
9th Place: FORESKiN FONDUE (5-8) – Matt Lamonakis
Coming in 9th place with a 5-8 record and 1,573 points scored (5th) is Matt Lamonakis. I thought Lamone finished 8th, but DMO must have passed him in points tie breakers during Week 13?
What Went Right:
Lamone’s first round pick was an absolute stud this year – Derrick Henry is RB2 and averages 26 points per week. I remember Lamone picked him a little higher than his ADP, but it worked out extremely well. The penis was plentiful, if you will. Henry has nearly 1,900 total yards and has scored 15 TDs.
DeAndre Hopkins was a steal in Round 2 at Pick #17 overall. Hopkins is WR4 in our scoring and has recorded 111 catches for 1,372 yards and 6 TDs.
Robby Anderson was another nice draft pick – 11th round, pick 114 overall. He’s gone for 92-1,056 and 3 TDs in his first year with the Panthers, currently ranked as the #17 WR in our scoring. He was the 45th WR taken in our draft and that my friends is some serious ROI.
What Went Wrong:
One downfall was the injury to Austin Ekeler. He was killing it through the first 3 weeks and combined for more than 60 fantasy points in those three games. Sadly for his owners he got hurt in Week 3 and missed the next 7 weeks.
The last two weeks of the season were not kind to Lamone and ultimately sunk him. He was 5-6 after week 11 and in prime position to make a playoff push. His team was coming off a win and then… he ran into a brick wall made up of his two former roommates. He lost to Dylan by a score of 119-140 in Week 12. The 140 was Dylan’s highest point total of the season, go figure. He then lost a win-or-go-home matchup against my team in Week 13 by a score of 99-128. The 128 wasn’t a season high for my team, but it was the most points I had scored since Week 5. Week 13 also happened to be Lamone’s 3rd worst output of the regular season and his lowest point total since Week 9. Bad time for your team to stall out.
Lamone was never able to figure out his QB situation and it hurt him all year. Look at this Chicago Bears/Cleveland Browns worthy list of QBs he used during the year – Jared Goff, Jimmy G, Mitch Trubisky, Teddy Bridgewater, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Wentz, Derek Carr and Alex Smith. Uhhh what?
Preseason Prediction:
“I say Lamone goes 7-6 and loses in the second round of the playoffs. He’s got a really good team, but he’ll need to do some work on the QB front.”
I was right on the QB concerns, but didn’t predict the Ekeler injury or inconsistency from his WRs. 1 for 2.
Final Thoughts:
A forgettable season for Lamone, but I’m sure he’ll bounce back next year and make a playoff push. While this team had some studs like Henry/Hopkins, it wasn’t enough to make it to the dance.
