GWBL WEEK 9 - WHAT YOU MISSED (PART 2)

Welcome to GWBL Week 9, Part 2. Let’s see what you may have missed. From 6th to last place:

Henry Hurts - Tieg (4-5)

Tieg’s going through a rough patch right now, losing 2 of his last 3 and 3 of his last 4. He’s always streaky in this league though - he started 0-2, ripped off 3 straight wins and then lost 3 of 4. Good news for him is that he holds his destiny in his own hands this week - he plays 4-5 Lamone in what could be a deciding game for the last playoff spot. There’s still a lot of time left in the season, but 5-5 is a hell of a lot different than 4-6.

A lot of good news for Tieg in terms of players - both Derrick Henry and Jalen Hurts are past their byes. His team will only go as far as those two carry it. Deebo and Keenan Allen are also past their byes - Deebo seems to be healthy, but Keenan Allen may not recover from this hamstring pull until the sun burns out and an asteroid hits the earth, wiping out all memory of this disastrous season. Anyways….

Good fantasy football teams tend to find RB production and Tieg has done just that. Donta Foreman has been a nice addition for him and combined for 67 points the last 3 weeks. Once upon a time Foreman was an up and coming RB sleeper until an achilles injury derailed his career. It might be back on track now that he’s the starter in Carolina.

Huge stretch for Tieg coming up as he takes on 4-5 or 5-4 teams in his next 3 matchups. He’s on the playoff bubble… for now.

Tuna Tungyamotha - Lamone (4-5)

Perfect segue to Lamone’s team - Tieg’s opponent in Week 10 and the only other 4-5 team. Lamone had a down week in Week 9 (129 points), but he was on a heater prior to that. In Weeks 6-7-8 he scored 168, 172 and 193 - all wins.

Rhamondre has been the ace for Lamone and he’s quickly establishing himself as a premier RB talent in the NFL. Even in a down week for the Pats offense he scored 19 points in Week 9. We saw his rushing talent as a rookie, but the receiving talent has been a complete surprise for most this year. I heard rumors and coach speak in draft season but I don’t think anyone expected 35 receptions at the midway point of the season - on pace for more than 70 catches.

Antonio Gibson has been a nice surprise, yet again. What a roller coaster for this guy. Stud last year, loses his job in the summer. Gets his job back when Robinson got shot, lost his job when Robinson came back. Then all of a sudden he’s a startable RB again. With 23-21-11 points his last 3 weeks he’s the most useful fantasy RB in Washington, if not the outright starter.

Jamar Chase and Zeke Elliot are injured right now, but if he can hold down the fort til theyre back Lamone might be a sneaky playoff threat.

Aiyuk Talkin to Me? - Frader (3-6)

Really rough few weeks for Frader and he’s dropped from 3-3 and a playoff team down to 3-6 and a playoff long shot. Lucky for him he has a trip to cupcake city in Week 10, but he has some serious work to do after that if he wants to get back into playoff contention.

I gripe alot in fantasy but I also recognize when other people suffer - Frader in this case. In three consecutive weeks his opponents have scored 170+. That’s just cruel.

A couple of areas for hope: Cordarelle Patterson is back from IR and his late career renaissance continues. He came back and immediately popped for 2 TDs. Tony Pollard may have stolen the Dallas RB job from Zeke, at the very least he’s earned himself a big role moving forward. Juju has established himself as Mahomes’ favorite WR. He still has some studs in Herbert, Diggs and Pittman so not all is lost. He is running out of time though.

Austin MasaChoochoo - Ken (3-6)

Ken was on a bit of a run there, winning back to back games in Week 7 and 8 and inching towards the playoff conversation. Unfortunately his team crapped out in Week 9 and my slapdick squad somehow managed a half decent showing. While one loss doesn’t always make or break a fantasy season, it’ll be hard not to point to Week 9 as the week Ken’s season ended (if he doesn’t make playoffs).

Remember that rant I had on Travis Etienne earlier? Well here goes another one - WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON OUT HERE??? In Lambeau Field that is. This story has been beaten to death but holy hell the Packers are an abomination right now. Led by the NFL’s biggest weirdo Aaron Rodgers. This guy is killing fantasy teams and did it again in Week 9. Don’t give me the “he doesn’t have any weapons” BS either. Rodgers stinks right now, plain and simple. Lazard, Doubs, Watson, Aaron Jones, Aj Dillon, Tonyan, etc seems usable to me. But for some reason he can’t make lemonade with the lemons on his team. How he goes from MVP to “can’t score double digits against the hapless Lions” in less than a year is beyond me but here we are. The same Lions that Bailey Zappe shredded a few weeks ago. RIP Aaron Rodgers’ Career. Week 9, 2022.

Another frustrating thing for Ken is Deandre Swift. How is this guy not healthy yet? He plays maybe 15 snaps a game and had a bye week built in early. How is he not healthy?

Not much else to say here - it’s put up or shut up time for the choo choo train. Unfortunately for him he plays Dyl this week sooo good luck.

Zero Point Zero - Anonymous (2-7)

My team sucks, this year sucks, Kyle Pitts sucks. I won’t waste too much of your time with my nothing burger of a team but man this year is frustrating. I know where I went wrong in the draft, but that doesn’t make it any easier. The L’s keep piling up and I keep taking it in the A. First I lose Marquise Brown, then I lose to Dyl by 12 when I fucked up a QB decision in Week 8. At one point I led the league in points against, but I can’t even use that as an excuse anymore. I have the reverse-midas touch in this league this year. The next 5 weeks will just be a slow painful march to the Gabriel and I for one cannot wait until it’s over. The Trail of Tears. The Sandakan Death March. The Bataan Death March. The last 5 weeks of the 2022 GWBL fantasy season for the commish. Good riddance
