Week 6 Recaps - Intro and Matchup 1

Week 6 Recaps - Intro and Matchup 1

I hate the way you talk to me and the way you cut your hair.

I hate the way you drive my car, I hate it when you stare.

I hate your big dumb combat boots and the way you read my mind.

I hate you so much it makes me sick, it even makes me rhyme.

I hate the way you’re always right, I hate it when you lie.

I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry.

I hate it when you’re not around and the fact that you didn’t call.

But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

Now as you all know, that poem is from the movie Ten Things I Hate About You. If you’ve never seen it, put it at the top of your list. It’s Heath Ledger in his prime and also has Joseph Gordon Levitt, Julia Stiles, Alex Mack and of course, Bogey Lowenstein. It’s an awesome movie. The reason I bring this up is three-fold. One, I hate my job. The reason these have been late the last few weeks is because I get raped every day the from the second I come in til the second I leave. Tis life in public acccounting. The second is because we all go through that range of emotions. We hate fantasy football at times, but in the end, we can’t get enough of it. The third is that Matthew Berry gets a lot of hate from this league. Specifically on his love/hate column. If you read his stuff, you’ll know that this is somewhat of a rip-off from a column he wrote 2 weeks ago – Ten Things I Hate About Fantasy Football. Sue me, I don't get paid to write these.

Keeping with that, let’s talk about Matthew Berry. I’m a Matthew Berry sympathizer. If you can convince ESPN to pay you to talk about fantasy football that’s amazing. Also, he’s pretty funny and does give some good advice. Having said that, he has been pretty bad this season. He gets a lot of flak for being wrong, but he does get some of them right. Just for fun, let’s take a look through his love/hate from Week 6. I’ve only included the main players - his “also receiving votes” sections are just throwing shit at the wall.

QB LOVE:

Carson Palmer: WRONG. Even though Palmer had a good matchup, he put up just 15.9 points. That was outside of the top 20 for QBs.

Derek Carr: WRONG - this was even worse than Palmer, just 12.9.

QB HATE:

Philip Rivers: CORRECT, Rivers put up 12.8 this past week which was his lowest of the season.

Eli Manning: WRONG, Eli threw for 400 yards and scored 32.5 points in our league (5th best)

Blake Bortles: CORRECT, Bortles threw for just 13.3 points. The Jags look really bad this year.

RB LOVE:

CJ Anderson: WRONG and I’m really worried about CJ. He had only 11.1 points this week, which was outside of the top 25 RBs. He did have a 20 yard TD called back by penalty, but still. That run actually cost me a game in another league. FACK.

Lamar Miller: CORRECT, Miller finally broke his TD drought and scored 39.1 this week.

Christine Michael: CORRECT – on the back of two TDs, Christine scored 25.4 this week.

RB HATE:

Matt Forte: CORRECT and you really have to worry about Forte. He may not be a top 20 back going forward and managed just 4.5 points this week.

Isaiah Crowell: CORRECT – another guy you have to drop in your rankings. Crowell scored 6.4 this week.

Matt Jones: WRONG about his own favorite team, the Redskins. Jones put up over 25 points this week, nearly matching his season high.

WR LOVE:

Kelvin Benjamin: WRONG, only 12.6 outta Lamone’s favorite player this week (outside of top 20)

Marvin Jones: WRONG, only 8.5 this week. If he hadn’t scored a short TD it woulda been real bad.

Brandin Cooks: CORRECT, Cooks had a monster day including an 87 yard TD (29.2 points)

Julian Edelman: WRONG WRONG WRONG. Edelman is the one player who hasn’t benefited from the return of Tom Terrific (10 points, 3-4 of which were from punt returns).

Jeremy Maclin: WRONG, outside the top FIFTY for WR scoring this week.

Me watching Julian Edelman.

Me watching Julian Edelman.

WR HATE:

Travis Benjamin: CORRECT, outside the top 50 for WR scoring this week.

Alshon Jeffery: CORRECT – Alshon scored 12.8 this week, which puts him at #22 for the week. Still, one of his better weeks.

Jeremy Kerley: CORRECT – Kerley didn’t do shit this week.

TE LOVE:

Jimmy Graham: CORRECT, Graham’s resurgence continues as he put up 12 this week.

Zach Miller: WRONG – only 6.6 this week despite the fact Hoyer threw for 300 AGAIN.

TE HATE:

Redskins TEs: WRONG, the ghost of Vernon Davis scored 12 this week.

Dennis Pitta: CORRECT, he tied Miller with just 6.6.

DST LOVE:

Cardinals: CORRECT, the Cards held the Jets to just 3 points.

Bills: MEH, Bills put up 5 points this week.

DST HATE:

Panthers: CORRECT, the Panthers were one of 3 teams to put up negative points this week. But that was an easy call.

Bengals: CORRECT, the Bengals were one of those three teams I mentioned above. But a drunken monkey could have predicted that one.

Is this how Berry picks love/hate?

Is this how Berry picks love/hate?

Overall on the week, he predicted love/hate for 27 players. Out of those, I’d say he clearly missed on 12 of those. That’s around 50%, which is okay, but not great. Having said that, he does have the hardest job in the world. Trying to predict fantasy football, or the NFL games for that matter is just impossible. Case in point, Ben Roethlisberger losing to the Dolphins. However, it gets worse you look at the loves, which he had 14 of. Out of those, he got 9 wrong. Well below 50%, that’s pretty bad mmmkayy.

That long winded intro leads us into our Week 6 recaps. This week, I’m going to do my own version of love/hate. It’ll be the same thing as Berry’s love/hate, but with the benefit of Captain Hindsight. I’ll pick 2-3 players from each team and talk about them a bit. Enjoy.

Matchup 1: WellJustTellUr MotherWeAteItAll won 147.3 to 105.8

Start Em: Lamar Miller FINALLY broke his touchdown drought with 2 TDs this week and 39 points. He has a matchup with Denver this week though, so this may be short lived. Either way, he has to be in your lineup.

Start Em: After 3 weeks scoring fewer than 10 points, it seems Amari is back on track. He has 46.7 points over the last two weeks. He’s liable to disappear, but he’s just as liable to put up big numbers.

Sit Em: Julian Edelman has been a colossal bust since I traded for him – thanks for nothing Peabs. I’ve had him for 4 games and he’s combined for just 27.2 points. Gonna have to consider benching him.

Matchup 1: Zeka-A-Virus lost 105.8 to 147.3:

Start Em: Ezekiel Elliot can’t stop, won’t stop. I thought he was gonna have a tough matchup with Green Bay, but that was not the case. Their defense was one of the best at stopping the run coming into this week, but zeke rumbled for a season high 157 yards this week.

BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!

BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!

Sit Em: Allen Robinson has been a huge disappointment this year along with the rest of the Jaguars. He’s only on pace for 8 TDs after scoring 16 last year and he does not have a game with more than 72 yards all season. Buyer beware.

Sit Em: Emmanuel Sanders had a nice three week stretch between weeks 3 and 5, scoring 60 points during that time frame. That seems to be over as he scored just 6 this week. Tack on the 7.4 and 5.4 point showings in weeks 1 & 2 and I am concerned. The time to sell high has passed.
