GW Bush League - Week 6 (Part 1)
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Welcome back to another week of GW Bush League entertainment. Week 6 is in the books and we have 7 weeks to go in the regular season. There is a ton to talk about this week, but first we must pay our respects to our fallen heroes.
As we all know, there was another major injury this week – Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers came out of the game and he’s gonna have to double check the discount on his Red-Zone subscription while he watches the rest of the season from home. This sucks. He’s one of the best QBs in the NFL and a huge part of fantasy football. He’s generally been healthy/durable, but he couldn’t escape injury this year. If it feels like there’s been a major injury every week it’s because there has been:
Week 1 – David Johnson (Frader)
Week 2 – Greg Olsen (Dylan)
Week 3 – Darren Sproles (N/A)
Week 4 – Dalvin Cook (Commish)
Week 5 – Odell Beckham (Guy)
Week 6 – Aaron Rodgers (Kev)
That sucks and that’s 6 players who have gone down in consecutive weeks. Aside from Sproles, all of them 4th round picks or better. I won't even get into guys like Allen Robinson, Corey Coleman, JJ Watt, Julian Edelman, Spencer Ware, etc etc (only Tieg can benefit from an injury). It’s part of the game though, there will probably be another injury this week. Just hope it’s not you this time…..
Moving on to this week’s write-ups - this week I’m going to look at the actual matchups and make a few observations. The first observation will the historical record between each opponent. I went back through the league history and looked up each team's record vs the person they played this week. The other notes will be random and mostly about the teams/players. The observations could be about anything, but hopefully they will be insightful. We’ll also have an interview this week so stay tuned.
WHAT IF HE SHOT ME IN THE FACE? (4-2)
Wins 161.7 to 101.5 over
Bud Light n the Dilly Dilly’s: (3-3)
ONE: Since 2014 Dylan and I have played each other 7 times. I have a 4-3 record against him, but he won the only playoff matchup we had vs each other (2014). I scored 137 in that playoff game and lost – sweet.
TWO: My team simply went off this week and there wasn’t much Dylan could do. The 161 I scored was the league high in Week 6 and was my personal best in 2017. Dylan’s 101 points weren’t terrible, but he would have only beat 2 other teams in the league.
THREE: The RBs on both of our teams went absolutely nuts. Let's just say they bukaked at Caleb's Bukake Party. I got 72.8 points from Melvin Gordon, McKinnon and Isaiah Crowell. Meanwhile Dylan got 59.6 points from Jordan Howard, McCaffrey and Buck Allen. It was a running back bonanza.
FOUR: Jordan Howard did his best Le’Veon Bell impersonation vs. the Ravens and ended with 28.3 points for the Dilly Dilly. The 2nd year back had THIRTY SIX carries for 167 yards and 1 catch for 9 yards. Howard looked like a potential bust early on, but he’s been making it rain the last 4 weeks.
FIVE: I’m gonna mention this every week til he goes off, but Julio might be the biggest non-injury bust of the first round. Through 6 weeks he has failed to score a touchdown and he only has 25 catches for 367 yards in 5 games (the early bye doesn’t help). Overall he’s WR34 to date and has not been worth the first round price tag. I hope the Pats shut his stupid ass down this week, fuck Julio Jones.
MIXONS HERE HYDE UR GURLEY: 5-1
Wins 113 to 82.5 over
LeveonStuffed Kens TacoBell: 3-3
ONE: Robby D and Keetz have played each other 7 times in the last four seasons with Keetz taking a slight edge at 4-3. Robby D actually beat Keetz in the 2015 semi-finals, but Keetz takes the overall series. This one’s actually pretty crazy….in 2014 Keetz had a bad year and finished 2-11. His two wins both came against….. Robby D…….
TWO: Robby D got off to a nice 3-1 start but has come down to earth a bit and lost two straight games. The reason? Points against. Through the first 4 weeks not one of Bob D’s opponents scored over 98 points – he went 3-1. Over the last two weeks his opponents have averaged 117 points per game – he’s lost both. Ken’s Taco Bell is a good team but this is a disturbing trend.
THREE: Keetz finds himself in sole possession of first place and was the first team to reach 5 wins this year. He’s got the third most points in the league and his team looks really good. A lot of people are predicting him to win this league and while I’m still betting on Tieg, Keetz is making me question that.
FOUR: The main reason is his RB tandem of Todd Gurley and Carlos Hyde. Through 6 weeks those two are RB2 and RB8 respectively. Keetz has started both of them every week except Week 4. In those games they’ve combined for 34.4, 50.1, 71.9, 10.7 and 44.7 points. Yes week 5 was bad (and Keetz lost), but if he had started Hyde in Week 4, you could add a 53.8 to that stat line. That’s pretty nuts for just 2 players and Gurley might win the MVP this year.
FIVE: Le’Veon Bell is the best player in fantasy football and he proved it this week. He put up 36 points on 32 carries, 179 yards rushing, a rushing TD and 3 catches for 12 yards. Looking at it now, he almost outscored the rest of Robby D’s team BY HIMSELF. Robby D only put up 82 this week and Le’Veon put up 36. Check my math on this, but that means the rest of Robby D’s team put up just 46 points. Yep, the other 8 players didn’t even average 6 points among them. Sucks to “waste” that kind of a week from Le’Veon but he’s found his groove and will put up a few more like this.
JABAAL PAP SHMEARD: 4-2
Wins 117.9 to 72.8 over
JacksON Jacks-OFF: 2-4
ONE: Since 2014 Kev and Lamone have played each other 6 times. Kev has only won 2 of those matchups with Lamone winning 4. Lamone has actually beat Kev once a year for four straight years now and seems to have his number.
TWO: This game was pretty much over when Aaron Rodgers went down in the first quarter of his game vs. the Vikings. Rodgers put up .6 points for Kev and that decimal place is not a typo – he actually put up less than 1 point. If Rodgers put up the 27 he did last week then Kev woulda put up 100. He still woulda lost, but it would have looked much better. As we all know, Rodgers is out for the year. Live look at Kev……
THREE: Kev has been holding on to AP all year and it finally worked out…….except Kev didn’t start him. AP only went on to score 33.6 points on 26 carries for 134 yards and 2 TDs…..woops. I went back to 2014 to look at the team records and coincidentally this is AP’s best game since 2014 (didn't actually look). BUT you can’t blame Kev for sitting him - we all wanted to see what AP was gonna do. (I sat him in a different league as well but fortunately still won – NBD.) The results were positive. If AP can keep this up then Kev’s backfield might look pretty good now that he gets Lesean McCoy back from his bye.
FOUR: Lamone has a sparkly 4-2 record, but there’s a whole lotta lip-stick on this pig. The Pap Shmeard has only scored 573 points this year, which ranks 9th in this league – behind everyone but Guy. Lucky for Luma he only has the 8th most points against – behind everyone but Keetz and Bob D. While he doesn’t have the fewest points against, all four of his wins have been absolute gimmes. In the four games he’s won, his opponents are averaging 82.2 points against him with a high of 90 points. A win is a win in fantasy, but those are “easy wins”.
FIVE: DeMarco Murray and Jay Ajayi have a lot in common. They were both draft picks of Lamone and both were coming off huge years. They both have injury concerns and were bust candidates heading into the year. Unfortunately for Lamone, both have largely been busts and rank outside the top 22 in RB scoring. On the positive side, they both had big weeks in Week 6. Murray went for 19 points on 90 total yards and a TD, while Ajayi went for 21 points on 130 yards rushing. While I’m not fully sold on either guy, Lamone has to be pleased with his backfield right now.
