WEEK 5 - PART 1
WEEK 5 ENTERTAINMENT – MATCHUP RECAPS
Welcome back for some GWBL entertainment – Week 5 edition. This week we’re doing some good old-fashioned matchup recaps. No over-arching themes here aside from the ridiculous amount of points that were scored this week. This will mostly be observations from each matchup and what it means for each team going forward.
Butt Kicker Dot Com defeats HOW’S HOOTERS? KiTTLES? 146.1-143.7
A big bounce-back win for Keetz gets him to 4-1 and well on his way to a playoff spot. Josh Jacobs was the MVP for Butt Kicker and of all the crazy/unexpected performances in Week 5, this may have been the most crazy and unexpected. In their first 4 games the Bears D allowed 47, 90, 69 and 40 rushing yards with only 1 rushing TD against. In Week 4 they only allowed Dalvin Cook to rush for 35 yards and the 1 TD. So Josh Jacobs would get bottled up this week right? Nope, he went for 123 yards and 2 TDs (36 fantasy points). It was his best performance of the season and his first time going over 100 yards rushing in his young NFL career. The fact the game was played in London probably had something to do with the surprising result, but 36 points is 36 points. This was monumental for Keetz in a game his team won by 2.8 points.
HOW’S HOOTERS? KiTTLES? Loses to Butt Kicker Dot Com defeats 143.7-146.1
A horrible no good very bad loss for Lamone drops him to 0-5 and things are looking bleak. I don’t want to say he’s eliminated, but….we’re getting close to the cuncel. This one hurts really bad as it was just 2.8 points and as you saw above, Keetz had Josh Jacobs. It’s even worse because Lamone actually had a chance to win on Monday night football.
Going into MNF, he was down 146.1 to 121. He needed 25.2 points from Odell Beckham and George Kittle….. but he got 22.7. Kittle did his part with 18 points (season high), but Odell put up a pitiful 4.7 points. In a game they lost 31-3, Odell only managed 2 catches for 27 yards. It’s actually his second straight game with 2 catches and under 30 yards and he only got to 4.7 because he had 2 carries for 15 yards. Put Lamone on watch.
KingoftheNorth Shore defeats Make America Gordon Again 157.3-83.1
Robby D had a monster showing and put up the 2nd most points in the GWBL this week – props there. The crazy thing about it? He got a goose-egg from Greg Olsen and a 2.3 from Valdez-Scantling and STILL put up 157. Deshaun Watson carried the team with a team high 52.3 points (426 yards and 5 TDs) and made his case as arguably the 2nd best fantasy QB (I say Russel Wilson is #2, but Watson is #3).
The crazy thing about all of this is that Will Fuller was on Robby D’s bench. If Bob D swapped Fuller’s 51.7 for MVS’ 2.3 he would have put up over 200. Nuts.
Speaking of nuts: Robby D sat JuJu this week which requires HUGE ones. “I have 3 kids”/Randy Marsh type of nuts. It didn’t really work out as JuJu scored 15, but fortune favors the bold and Robby D got the W.
Make America Gordon Again loses to KingoftheNorth Shore 83.1-157.3
Tieg put up a season low 83.1 points this week and joins Lamone in the 0-5 club. I don’t want to spend the time looking it up, but I’m 99.999% sure we’ve never had two different teams start 0-5. As with Lamone we’re nearing an “RIP” for this squad.
The good news is that Tieg’s RB group seems to be taking shape. While Melvin Gordon only scored 8.2 points this week, he’s still getting warmed up and will get more work going forward. Austin Ekeler fumbled again which is also huge for Gordon. Additionally, Tevin Coleman came back this week and put up 100 yards and a TD for 19 fantasy points. The Kupp-Coleman trade from the preseason still gets a lot of flak from the league, but Coleman could be big in the 2nd half.
The bad news is that the Michael Thomas trade has blown up in Tieg’s face. Carlos Hyde was solid vs the Falcons (16.2), but Michael Thomas had a top 5 WR week with 37.7 fantasy points on 11 catches for 182 yards and 2 TDs. Thomas has caught 20 passes for 277 yards over his last two weeks and doesn’t appear to have lost much value without Drew Brees.
Tell Sloan I Said Whatup defeats The Skid Row Nightcrawlers 144-106.3
A big week from Dylan gets him to 3-2 on the year with a 3 game win streak. That’s the longest active win streak in the league and Dylan has to be feeling good about his team. He’s sorted out his TE position with Will Dissly (11 points) and his RBs combined for 60 points this week. Dalvin Cook’s 30 points give him 143.1 for the year – which is an average of nearly 30 per week. He’s put up 30+ in 3 of 5 weeks and put up 28.5 in another. While most of the late-first, early-second round RBs have suffered (Bell, Mixon, Conner, etc), Cook has risen from the ashes of a shitty 2018 season.
Speaking of a shitty 2018 – Leonard Fournette has been huge for Dyl lately. He scored 29.3 points this week on 23 carries for 108 yards and his first TD of the season. Over the past two weeks, Fournette has 52 carries for 333 yards rushing and 6 catches for 50 yards (66.6 fantasy points).
Stat of the day: Dylan’s kicker put up -4.5 points and he still scored 144.
The Skid Row Nightcrawlers lose to Tell Sloan I Said Whatup 106.3-144
I won’t waste much time here since Guy doesn’t read these, but what a disappointing week for the Night Crawlers. Christian McCaffrey put up 51.3 points….. the rest of Guy’s team put up 55. Baker Mayfield had -3.5 points. NEGATIVE!! It’s clear he’s just not going to be very good this season and Guy definitely needs to look for a new QB ASAP.
