WEEK 5 - PART 2
Return of the Mack defeats MaKamaraca Great Again 143.8-118.2
Big win for Frader this week – not only did he pull above .500, but he also pulled ahead of Kev in the standings (points tie breaker). In terms of noteworthy news items….Sony Michel is back! Maybe? Kind of…. Hopefully. Michel had his best week of the season, putting up 23 fantasy points on 16 carries for 91 yards and a TD. The 23 was more than he put up in Week 4 & 5 combined and the 91 rushing yards and 5.7 yards per carry were both season highs. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was that the Pats finally used him in the passing game. He had 3 catches for 32 yards this week and while those aren’t huge figures, he had 0 catches for 0 yards heading into Week 5.
Frader has the best RB group in the league – no questions asked. His 5 RBs combined for 102 fantasy points and 3 of the 5 had 23 points or more. Zeke only had 18, but better days are ahead for him. He’s had an oddly slow start to the season (“only” RB9), but I wonder if the holdout has anything to do with that. Regardless I’d kill to have a RB group of Zeke, Mack, Michel, Philip Lindsey and Chris Thompson in a league that rewards points per carry.
MaKamaraca Great Again loses to Return of the Mack 118.2-143.8
Tough loss for Kev, but the 118 points isn’t going to win you many weeks in this day and age. Good news: Kev made a great decision by starting DJ Chark and he’s looking like a #1 receiver right now. The second year Jaguar put up 164 yards and 2 TDs on 8 catches (11 targets). He’s got a ton of size (6-4), is really fast (4.34) and could be a star in the NFL. His 5 TDs rank 2nd in the NFL and his 485 yards rank 5th best. Minshew Mania has been very good to Chark.
I do have to mention Mike Evans here… holy shit what a bad game. The Bucs lost this game, scored 24 points and…. Mike Evans had zero fantasy points. Not one catch on the day. Marshon Lattimore is a really tough matchup, but zero catches?? Evans is WR12 on the season, but 43 of his 71 points came in a single week. In the 4 other weeks, Evans has 3.8, 8.1, 16.9 and 0 fantasy points. Good grief.
Daddys Little Gurl defeats The Permian Panthers 179.4-156.4
Huge week for Kenny as he put up the most points of any team in the GWBL. Trying to get home from work so don’t want to look, but this is the 2nd highest anyone has put up all season if I’m remembering correctly.
Aaron Jones had the most ridiculous performance of any player in Week 5 and put up 52.5 fantasy points. After rushing for 21 yards on 13 attempts in Week 4, he put up 107 yards on 19 attempts in Week 5. After accumulating 12 catches for 75 yards in the first 4 weeks of the season, he put up 7 catches for 75 yards in Week 5. That was the best receiving game by a Packers RB since 2014. 2014!! His 182 total yards was a career high and oh yeah, he also had FOUR rushing touchdowns.
This was the first time in NFL history a player has rushed for 4 TDs against the Cowboys. First time ever. Sweet.
This was just a week where the stars aligned for Ken. Jones’ huge day put Dak in position to rack up 30 points in garbage time. Todd Gurley had 2 rushing TDs on only 50 yards rushing (2nd straight week he had 2 rushing TDs what are the odds of that). Last but not least, the most predictable huge game of the season – Adam Thielen’s 30 points after completely throwing Cousins under the bus. Good job Ken FU.
The Permian Panthers lose to Daddys Little Gurl 156.4-179.4
Really annoying loss, but nothing I can do. The fantasy gods boned me. Despite putting up 60 points from 3 players (1 kicker) on TNF, I still lost. Despite putting up the 3rd most points in the league (1 behind the 2nd most), I still lost. Despite Zach Ertz and Tyler Boyd putting up their first TDs of the season, I still lost.
I’m not so mad about losing as I am about the way I lost. If my team doesn’t play well and I lose? Fine. But when your team puts up 156 points and loses? Fucking kill me now. Not to mention this week was horrible for me across all my leagues. No one cares about other people’s teams, but if you ever feel bad about your fortunes in fantasy football just think about the Week 5 I had. I went 1-4 across my 5 leagues this week, which is pitiful. When you look at the scores I put up, it’s just depressing. I’ll leave you with that:
League 1: scored 113 and lost
League 2: scored 141 and lost
League 3: scored 133 and lost
GWBL: scored 156 and lost
DraftKings: scored 192 points and finished 5th in my contest
League 5: scored 131 and won
FUCK THAT.
