2020 - Week 11 Observations (Part 2)
Matchup 1: The TC Williams Titans lose to Vote for Creepy Sniffin Joe (133.85 to 116.4):
Kinda perfect that I lose to “Creepy Sniffin Joe” right after Trump loses the election to him. I won’t get political here as this league is probably split 50/50 (ish) on the political spectrum, but I thought that was fitting. Insult to injury, shall we say.
Speaking of injuries, I know everyone’s been dealing with injuries and weird schedule nuances, but Week 11 was brutal for my team. Having Stefon Diggs on bye while Chris Carson and Kenny Golladay are both out with injuries? Yikes. Rather than the usual 15 or so points I’d get from each of them, I was forced to start Jerry Jeudy and Marvin Jones. Those two bums scored 5.2 and 7.1 points respectively. That was the difference in this matchup. Man I need those guys back soon.
Matchup 2: WatsOn Those Gurley Fries loses to Slight Brees (140.45 to 138.75):
I mentioned this in Tieg’s writeup, but how fitting is it that Kev played against Tieg the week of the Taysom Hill glitch? Unbelievable. If you read Barstool you probably know who Jerry Thornton is - the “Patriots guy” on the site and a legitimately good author. Anyways whenever the Jets do something ridiculous he says “if the Jets didn’t exist, I’d have to invent them.” Well… that’s how Kev is in this league. “If Kev didn’t exist, we’d have to invent him.” (The Jets connection to Kev’s personal life enriches this even further.)
Anyways back to the matchup - Dalvin Cook is just unfair. This fucking guy. Another 31 points this week which gives him 287 on the season - or 31.9 per week. AVERAGES 32 a week. Despite leaving one game with injury and missing another, he’s still RB1 in our league. He’s the 5th highest scoring player in all of fantasy, only behind Kyler, Russel Wilson, Mahomes and Josh Allen. He’s on pace to lead the NFL in rushing, while tacking on 400 receiving yards and nearly 20 TDs. Unfair.
Matchup 3: A Finkle In Time loses to Foreskin Fondue (116.85 to 90.3):
Frader picked a really bad time to put up his 2nd lowest point total of the season, especially given the playoff implications. Had he beat Lamone, he’s at 7-4 and locked into playoffs. Instead he’s 6-5 and still at risk (odds are good, but he hasn’t clinched yet). The worst part is Lamone’s team didn’t even perform that well - 116.85 was the lowest score of any team that won in Week 11. Frader has a tough matchup vs Keetz in Week 12 and his season hangs in the balance.
Fraders RBs have been so inconsistent this year - just look at Ronald Jones. He put up 32 in Week 10, then 4.4 in Week 11. How does that even happen? Sadly it’s not the first time Jones has pulled this magic trick. In Weeks 4, 5 and 6 he scored 23, 21 and 33, only to follow that up with scores of 13, 6 and 4 in weeks 7-9. He’s capable of some good games but you can’t feel good starting ROJO on Any Given Sunday. At least David Montgomery is back for Frader.
Matchup 4: Rolling w Mahomies loses to COVID Dak-cine (119.55 to 117.5):
Brutal loss for DMO and that likely puts a nail in the coffin of his inaugural GWBL season. What a roller coaster - from the #1 pick and a Week 1 victory, to 3-8 and potential Gabriel. This is largely a result of the McCaffrey injury, but losses like this certainly don’t help. DMO has easily been the most unlucky team this year when you look at some of his losses. He lost this 2 point game and has lost 3 games when scoring 135 or more. Ouch.
Speaking of McCaffrey, DMOs RBs have fallen apart. It got so dire that DMO started Tony Pollard this past week. The Cowboys backup RB who had only topped 10 points once before last week. He did score 13 in Week 11, so it was a smart move by DMO (look at Frader’s RBs), but this does help explain the 3-8 record.
Matchup 5: Fresh Prince of Bhel-Aire loses to Rugg and Tugg (140.95 to 100.1):
Not much Robby D could do here, Keetz was the highest scoring team in Week 11. Bad beat. At least Robby D didn’t waste a 120 point week or something like that. While points tie breakers are important, I’d rather lose by 40 than lose 135-140 or something like that. Robby D has actually had a lot of luck in that regard as he hasn’t topped 100 points in any of his 4 losses. Save the bullets for when they count I guess.
On the bright side, it seems like Michael Thomas is back. The fact that Rob D is 7-4 with Michael Thomas on his team is beyond me, but Thomas might be just the push he needs to win the league this year. Thomas put up a season high 16.9 (nice) points on 9 catches for 104 yards. Coming into Week 11, Thomas had just 10 catches for 95 yards. He just about topped that amount in this game alone. Better days ahead for the Ohio State product.
