GW Bush League - Week 6 (Part 2)
THE FOURNETTEUATE FEW: 3-3
Wins 147.4 to 120.3 over
CALEB’S BUKAkE PARTY: 4-2
ONE: Since 2014 Ken has played Tieg 5 times. In the most shocking result since Trump beat Hillary, Ken has a 4-1 record against Tieg. FOUR AND ONE!!! That’s pretty awesome good for you Ken.
TWO: This was an unfortunate result for Tieg as his 120 points would have beaten all but two other teams (me and Ken). You won’t catch me feeling bad for him though – karmic retribution is my favorite part about fantasy football. (Speaking about his bullshit 4-point win in Week 5. Fuck Tyreek Hill.)
THREE: Speaking of Karmic retribution, Tieg’s team took a few hits this week.
- His #1 WR Jordy Nelson lost a ton of value with the injury to Aaron Rodgers. Jordy went from a top 10 WR to a guy Tieg isn’t even starting this week.
- Devonta Freeman had his worst game of the season and was vultured again by Tevin Coleman. (The Falcons don’t like their good players for some reason.)
- Kareem Hunt had his worst game of the season and showed he is somewhat mortal.
- Last but not least, the Zeke suspension. Although he likely wont serve any suspension, the final decision has been pushed back two weeks. The further this thing gets pushed back the more likely it is that Zeke might miss our fantasy playoffs. That would obviously be not good for Tieg.
While I’m still picking him to win the league, Tieg’s team isn’t looking quite as formidable as it was a week ago.
FOUR: Enough about Tieg, how about the Peabs? In his biggest matchup of the year Ken put up his highest point total of 2017. In doing so he got his record back to .500. Ken was actually 1-3 just 2 short weeks ago, so this has been quite the turnaround. The major reason is Leonard Fournette who may be the best running back in the NFL. Over the last two weeks Fournette has put up 67.5 points on 310 rushing yards and 3 TDs. The freak from LSU has scored a TD in EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. THIS. YEAR. He ranks #2 in the NFL with 596 rushing yards and has 7 total TDs already. He had a bit of an injury scare this week, but Fournette is the real deal.
FIVE: While the Ty Montgomery injury really hurt Ken, the AP trade really helped him. And not because of AP, but because Ken owns Mark Ingram. Ingram was frustratingly under-utilized the first 5 weeks of the season (including a bye) and accumulated 45 points through his first 5 weeks. Then this week came and he put up 35, nearly doubling his season total. With AP out of the way, Ingram can take over as the clear lead-back in New Orleans. Alvin Kamara will eat into his workload, but there’s plenty of work to go around. All in all things are looking great for Ken right now.
THE STAR OF LARRY DAVID JOHNSON: 1-5
Wins 111.9 to 110.3 over
"Jakey Jakey" Big Mistakey: 1-5
ONE: Since 2014 Frader has played Guy 6 times. They have split the matchup evenly at 3 wins a piece. Both of them have also won the league title in that time – Frader in 2014 and Guy in 2015 (Lamone 2016).
TWO: I won’t mince words here, this win was HUGE for Frader. A 1-5 record is shitty and your season might be over, but it’s nothing compared to an 0-6 record. NOTHING. It also may have saved him from the Gabriel considering Guy's two WRs both got hurt in the last 10 days. There's a long way to go, but it looks like a two team Gabriel race between Guy and Frader. If Frader gets the Gabriel two years in a row........
THREE: With a point differential of 1.6 I believe this was the closest matchup of the 2017 season. Pretty fitting considering it may be the game that determines this year’s Gabriel. You can point to any number of things that made the difference, but the major one is the once great but now terrible Mike Gillislee. Gillislee put up just 4.4 points for Guy this week and lost a fumble in the game. The two points he lost on that fumble would have been the difference. Aside from that, the fumble then put Gillislee into Bill’s famous dog-house where he remained for most of the game. (Really the only thing I hate about Bill is his ridiculously short fuse when it comes to fumbling. It's not like Gillislee is Stevan Ridley where this is a continuous issue.) Anyways during his time in the dog-house we all had to watch Dion Lewis rush for 50 yards and vulture yet another short TD from Gillislee. As Al Pacino once said – “the inches we need are everywhere around us”.
(Dick jokes are welcome)
FOUR: Although Frader got the win he has to be disappointed with the production he got from Jordan Reed. The Redskins TE was definitely a boom or bust guy coming into the draft, but no one expected him to be this much of a bust. For the first time all year Reed was taken off the injury report. He had a good matchup vs. the 49ers and it seemed like he’d finally break out. Instead he caught 4 passes for 37 yards and 5.7 fantasy points. Through 6 weeks Reed is TE34 and it’s time to wonder if Frader will get any ROI on his 5th round draft pick. Let’s not forget Reed was taken one spot before Travis Kelce….WOOPSIE.
FIVE: Back to the positive for our victor – Chris Thompson. Frader picked up Chris Thompson for zero FAAB dollars on September 20th and the results have been superb. In the 4 weeks Frader has owned him Thompson has totaled 54.8 fantasy points. One of those was a bye, so Thompson has scored over 18 points per game while on Frader’s squad. All in all he’s RB11 in fantasy and continues to be the #1 option in the Redskins offense. While he’s prone to some slow games (2.4 points in Week 4), he’s also prone to yuge games (he has 14 or more points in 4 of 5 games and 21 or more in 3 of those). Not bad for a guy you picked up off waivers.
INTERVIEW: “Jakey-Jakey” Big Mistakey: 1-5
1. In a sentence or two, tell me how you feel about your team…..
This really is a "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.." sort of situation now with back to back ODB drafting.
2. Now describe your team in 4 words or less.
Not getting second ring.
3. While Odell Beckham’s injury was devastating, I’ll pick another player to pick on. What are you gonna do about Mike Gillislee? He had 42 combined points in Week 1+2 and has just 24 in the 4 games since then….
What can I do? At this point I genuinely have nothing going for me. In Week 1 my team looked promising. Mariota was a solid late round pick, Marshawn performed in a manner that made people think twice and I had the prospect of Odell carrying my team. Since then Gronk has been hot and cold, Odell is hurt, Marshawn fell to the performance level/workload that everyone but me expected and Mariota is barely "healthy". I'm not sure what to do with Gillislee because I have nothing to offer a team trade-wise. I just need to try and not be working during waiver wire night and actually strike gold with someone.
4. Overall what do you like best about your team and what do you like the least about your team?
I like Gronk the best. Perhaps he's some trade bait so maybe I misspoke above, but it's hard to trade the only silver lining on your team. Injuries is what I like the least. Odell is hurt, Gronk is injury prone and now Golden Tate is hurt. He was really my only RB AND OR WR at this juncture and may miss multiple weeks. There's a chance I begin posting 50-60pt weeks soon.
5. Who do you think will win the league this year?
It's gotta be Johnny C's year.
(Editor's Note: I appreciate the vote of confidence but....me? Win this league?....
6. You’re in a few other leagues, how are those going for you?
I'm in one other league and my team name is "Little Scotty Logan", so thats a good thing.
(Editor's Note: No reference to the record?)
7. Who do you think is the next league member to get engaged?
Kev
(Editor’s Note: That’s 2 votes for Guy, 3 votes for Kev and 1 vote for Ken. (Cumulative results)
8. Speaking of which, you’re a popular candidate for that last question. Any news on that front for you personally?
Uhh no news specifically. We renewed our lease and are buying a house in LA next year (fingers crossed), but nothing aside from that.
9. When’s the next time you’ll be in the Boston area?
Uhmmm I THINK I'll be in CT for xmas. 70/30 right now though. Boston, no plan specifically.
(Editor's Note: So no plans to see any of us. Just move back to the East coast already.)
10. Any final thoughts you would like to share with the league? The floor is yours…
I promise to actually pick a player up on waivers this coming week and be a bit more invested in the health of my team. Not letting this fall by the wayside, I've just been having some bs weeks at work lately that have been keeping me distracted from what's important.
