GW Bush League - Week 7 (Part 1)

GW Bush League - Week 7 (Part 1)

My Lords,

Welcome back to another week of GW Bush League entertainment. We’re more than half-way through the season and things are really starting to heat up. While things are taking shape, there’s still a ton of season left to play. It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out and as usual, our league is going to come down to the final weeks.

For this week’s entertainment I’m going to start with some quick hits – just some thoughts on the weekend and on league matters…

KP41: The Pink Whales KP41 golf tournament was this weekend and it went really well. There was a good turnout, the course was really nice and the weather was perfect. I imagine they raised a good chunk of money which will go to a great cause. There were a few assholes who played in the group behind ours, but all in all it was a success.

Keetz over Commish: Keetz killed me in this one, not much to say. After averaging 150 points over the last two weeks my team ran out of gas. Keetz continued his winning ways and gave us another reminder that he’s Tieg’s #1 threat to the title.

Rob D over Lamone: Rob D with a clean win over Lamone mainly due to Leveon’s 30 point day. Lamone’s WRs continue to plague him and he got just 10 points from the two of them this week.

Dylan over Peabs: Dylan won a close matchup by 3.7 points. Leonard Fournette didn’t play and Ken got 3 points from Ty Montgomery. Dylan had a big day out of Tyrod Taylor as he continues to shuffle QBs.

Frader over Kev: Frader with a huge win over Kev and his second straight. From 0-5 to 2-5 what a turn around. Kev got 8.8 points from AP and Tevin Coleman after the two combined for 45 last week.

Tieg over Guy: Tieg put up a league high 159 points and gets his $25. He kinda wasted his high score on this one as Guy put up a season-low and league-low 43 points. Guy’s highest scorer was Mariota with 11 and his next highest was Gronk with 6.6. A week to forget.

Now that those are out of the way, let’s get to the real write-up. Since we are officially through the first 50% of the season, I thought it would be a good time to do some mid-season analysis. For this week’s write-ups, I’m going to look back at each team’s draft and give out some mid-season awards. These awards will only be given to draft picks – free agent acquisitions do not count. Here are the awards:

Fantasy Star: This award will go to the biggest stud on your team. A guy who’s produced big numbers and is integral to your team’s success.

Fantasy Bust: This award will go to the guy who has most drastically UNDER-performed their draft position.

Fantasy Steal: This award will go to the guy who has most drastically OVER-performed their draft position.

THE STAR OF LARRY DAVID JOHNSON: 2-5

Star: I guess I’ll go with Russel Wilson here – drafted 60th overall as QB5. While he’s only QB8 as of this writing, he’s already had his bye week and is 7th in points per game (24.5). He’s scored 32 or more in 3/6 games and has 19 or more in 4/6. He’s got an extremely favorable schedule coming up which should help Frader keep this run going.

Bust: David Johnson would be the easy call, but let’s take injuries out. Although he had a HUGE game on TNF, I have to go with Amari Cooper here. The first pick of the 3rd round is WR17, but he had just 15 points COMBINED in the five games between Weeks 2-6. People don’t forget. To make matters worse Frader didn’t even start him this week – 43.5 points on the bench (Frader still won though).

People don't forget Amari.

People don't forget Amari.

Steal: Let’s go Doug Martin here. Even though he didn’t play until week 5 he’s already RB45 in fantasy scoring. He’s scored 13 or more in every single game he’s played and is the clear work-horse-back for the Bucs. Frader really needed some RB help and has won 2 of 3 games since Martin returned.

LeveonStuffed Kens TacoBell: 4-3

Star: This one’s easy – Le’Veon Bell. Bell is currently RB3 after being taken as the 2nd overall pick and I’d be shocked if he doesn’t remain in the top 3 the rest of the season. His usage is outrageous and he’s averaging more than 34 touches per game the past 4 weeks. In that time he’s averaged 32 points per game which is just crazy. The Steelers are gonna run him into the ground, but that's a good thing when he's on your fantasy team. Robby D will ride the LeVeon gravy train to the playoffs no questions asked.

Bust: Now this one’s kind of tough. On one hand TY Hilton is a top 20 WR after being the 22nd player drafted. Not bad. On the other hand he’s only scored 1 touchdown through 7 games. Pretty bad. To make matters worse, he’s been as boom or bust as they come. In two “good games” he’s combined for 50 fantasy points. In five “bad games” he’s combined for 23. It’s tough to feel good about starting him right now……if you’re starting him at all.

Steal: Duke Johnson Jr. is definitely Robby D’s best steal and comes in at RB19 through 7 weeks. The 9th round pick is currently 3rd among RBs in receiving yards and 5th among RBs in receptions. He’s scored 10 or more points in 5 of 7 games and is currently the only startable option on the Cleveland Browns.

THE FOURNETTEUATE FEW: 3-4

Star: Even though he missed this week’s game I have to say Leonard Fournette. The third round pick has scored a TD in every single game he’s played which is ri-donkulous. He’s scored 15 or more in all 6 games he played and has 27 or more in 4 of the 6. Even though he missed this week’s game he’s still RB4 and will be huge for Ken in the second half.

Bust: This one’s a bit of a reach, but I’m gonna go with Ken’s 4th round pick here – Ty Montgomery. Montgomery had a great start to the year and scored 60 points through the first 3 games (49 of that came in the first two). Unfortunately he’s had a rough go of it since then – he was injured in the first quarter of Week 4 and missed Week 5’s game. In the two games he’s played since then he’s combined for 8.4 points and has all but lost the starting job to Aaron Jones. Speaking of Aarons – the loss of Aaron Rodgers has depressed the value of all Packers players. Overall things aren’t looking great for him. He started out hot, but ultimately looks like a bust.

Steal: I’ll take Mark Ingram here – Ken’s 6th round pick at #58 overall. Ingram has scored 10 or more points in every single game and ranks as RB12 through 7 weeks – which includes a bye week. He started off somewhat slow with 45 points and no TDs in his first four games, but he’s been on a tear the last two weeks. Since the Saints traded AP away, Ingram has combined for 61 fantasy points and 3 touchdowns. He’s rushed for 100 or more yards in both games and caught 9 passes in that time as well. Great pick by Ken.

Bud Light n the Dilly Dilly’s: (4-3)

Star: Jordan Howard, RB, Chicago Bears. The 17th pick in our draft (9th RB) is RB7 through 7 weeks and is the best option in Dylan’s backfield. After getting injured in Week 2, Howard has been on fire. Over the last 5 weeks he’s received 117 touches (23 per game) which accounts for 23 points on carries alone (4.7 per week). He’s scored 3 touchdowns in that time (4 total this year) and has 10 or more points in every single game. Howard is perfect for our scoring system because the Bears don’t trust Trubisky and will continue to feed him like a hungry hungry hippo.

Bust: Even though he’s coming off his best game I’ll still go with Julio Jones here. Despite putting up 20 points against the Patriots in garbage time, Julio still only ranks as WR19. Yes he’s had a bye, but he also JUST recorded his first TD of the year. Other than this week, he has not exceeded 15.3 points once this year. He actually has 8.6 points or fewer in 2 of his 6 games which is just terrible. You’re expecting a lot more than that from the 4th overall selection in the fantasy draft. He has plenty of time to turn it around (and likely will), but to date he’s been a bust.

Steal: This one’s kinda cheap but I’ll take DeAndre Hopkins here. Hopkins fell further in our draft than Tommen Baratheon and Dylan got him at #37. As of press-time Hopkins is WR3, even though he’s coming off a bye. He’s tied for 4th in the NFL in targets (65), tied for 9th in receptions (37) and tied for the league lead with 6 TD catches. If Julio figures his shit out and Hopkins continues to produce then Dylan may have the best WR group when it’s all said and done.

“Jakey-Jakey” Big Mistakey: 1-6

Star: Slim pickings here, but I’ll go with Gonk in this spot. Although he’s coming off a bad game (6.6 points) and missed one game with injury, he’s still TE2 through 7 weeks. He’s scored 85 points on the season and averages over 12 per game (including the game he missed). That’s more than the following RBs: Jay Ajayi, Alvin Kamara, LeGarrette Blount, Bilal Powell and Marshawn Lynch to name a few.

Bust: Speaking of Marshawn Lynch – BUST. The 25th overall pick is currently RB38 and that number will fall further this week while he’s suspended. In his three best games, Marshawn has scored 13.3, 13.8 and 14.2. In his four bad games he’s scored 4.3, 3, 8.9 and 1.3. He’s got 2 TDs on the year, but he’s only caught 4 passes. I haven’t watched much of the Raiders, but from everything I’ve heard he doesn’t even look like the best RB they have in Oakland. All in all drafting Lynch was a jakey jakey big mistakey (lay-up, sue me).

Steal: LeGarrette Blount is definitely the best late round pick Guy had – the 96th overall pick in the 10th round. Blount is only RB22, but feel free to throw out the game where he had 0 carries. Aside from that he’s averaging about 15 carries per game on one of the best offenses in football. He’s scored 10 or more points in all but 2 of their 7 games and he’s clearly the lead back for the Eagles with Sproles out. He may not win any weeks for you, but you could do a lot worse at RB2.
