GW Bush League - Week 7 (Part 2)

GW Bush League - Week 7 (Part 2)

MIXONS HERE HYDE UR GURLEY: 6-1

Star: Obviously this goes to Todd Gurley who is having a big rebound after a truly terrible 2016 season. The 14th overall pick in our draft is the #1 RB through 7 weeks and is second among ALL PLAYERS with 190.5 fantasy points (just 3 behind Alex Smith). That 190 is 43 points fewer than he scored during the entire 2016 season - our scoring was pretty much the same last year. Considering Gurley put up 44 in Week 3, he could potentially surpass his 2016 total in just half the number of games this year.

Bust: I have to go to the 5th round for this one and pick Demaryius Thomas. Thomas is currently WR42 after being the 21st WR selected in our draft (#47 overall). Stats - Thomas has 30 catches for 389 yards this season. That doesn’t look horrible…..until you see that he hasn’t caught a TD pass yet. It looks even worse if you take out his best game – a 10 catch 133 yard performance against the Giants. Without that game he has just 20 catches for 256 yards and no TDs through 5 games. He did his best Amari Cooper impression this past week and scored 1.9 fantasy points on 2 catches for 9 yards. Sadly that’s the second time he’s scored fewer than 2 points in a game this season (not to mention he had a bye already). Hopefully things will get better for him, but there’s no guarantees with the way the Broncos look.

Steal: Gonna switch things up and go with the Jaguars defense here. Taken at #127 overall, the Jags are currently #1 in defensive scoring in our league. Despite being the 8th defense taken in the draft, they’ve scored 19 more points than any other defense this year. They have scored 12 or more points in 5 of 7 games and have two games with more than 25 points – which basically wins you the week. The 98 total points they’ve scored is more than high draft picks such as DeAndre Hopkins, Lamar Miller, AJ Green, Brandin Cooks and DeMarco Murray. HUGE advantage week to week at the position.

WHAT IF HE SHOT ME IN THE FACE? (4-3)

Star: Gonna have to go with Melvin Gordon here - my first round pick at 8th overall. He’s definitely been inconsistent and frustrating, but he’s also had some huge weeks and his overall numbers look good. While he has two games with 8.5 points or fewer, he’s scored 17 or more in 5 games. While he’s only averaging 3.4 yards per carry (WTF), he has 117 carries and nearly 30 catches already. It hasn’t been pretty, but Gordon is producing first round worthy numbers for me so far.  (Calling an injury for him, you heard it here first.)

Bust: Isaiah Crowell was a really popular breakout candidate for the 2017 season, but he has been a BEE YOU ESS TEE, BUST. I stupidly took him in the third round over guys such as Zeke, Carlos Hyde, Hopkins and Lamar Miller – it was a terrible mistake. He was supposed to be the #1 bell-cow back on a run-first offense with a good offensive line. Instead he’s a secondary option on a pass-first team that will likely go 0-16 this year. Crowell hasn’t scored a TD through 7 weeks while Duke Johnson has 4. His season high in points is the 12.5 he put up this week and overall he sits at RB34 – while playing in all 7 games. This was just a brutal decision by me and will haunt me all season long.

Steal: Zach Ertz in the 10th round was definitely my best pick this year. The Eagles TE has scored 10 or more points in every game so far and has 39 catches for 494 yards and 5 TDs through 7 games. He’s always had the potential and with Carson Wentz playing like an MVP it’s finally been unleashed. He’ll definitely get injured or crap out soon because #commishcanthavenicethings, but it’s been a nice run to start the year.

CALEB’S BUKAkE PARTY: 5-2

Star: While I could put Kareem Hunt as a sleeper, I’ll save that for someone else. Instead we’ll discuss the ridiculous season Hunt has had so far. The Chiefs rookie is RB2 through 7 weeks and he leads the NFL in all-purpose yards. He’s the first player this season to reach 1,000 all-purpose yards and he’s on pace for nearly 2,300 AP yards. As for fantasy points, he’s averaging 26 per game. The 49.5 points he scored in Week 1 is the highest output of any player this year. He’s also been consistent as he’s put up 15 or more points in every game thus far. Hilarious to think he fumbled on his first NFL carry. LOL.

3-1.gif

Bust: I’m going down pretty far for this one, but I’ll go with Tyler Eifert here. Tieg took Eifert in the 7th round and got 6.6 fantasy points to show for it. Eifert played in the first two games before being injured and subsequently being put on the IR. Losing a 7th round pick isn’t that bad, but Tieg passed on other TEs like Delanie Walker, Kyle Rudolph, Zach Ertz, and Hunter Henry to get him (all have done much better than Eifert).

Steal: I wanted to go with Kareem Hunt, but instead we’ll go with his teammate Tyreek Hill. The 2nd year WR on the Chiefs went in the 6th round of our draft at #52 overall. Despite being the 24th WR off the board, he’s currently WR2 in scoring. Wanna hear the other WRs taken in the 6th round? Kelvin Benjamin, Allen Robinson, Martavis Bryant and Davante Adams… none of whom are good right now. Hill also single handedly beat me in my matchup vs. Tieg on the bullshittiest bullshit punt return TD on Sunday Night football. While he’s prone to have some slow weeks he’s a guy you have to keep in your lineup.

JABAAL PAP SHMEARD: 4-3

Star: Gonna be a homer here and go with the GOAT Tom Brady. When Lamone took Brady with the first pick of the 4th round I kind of thought it was a reach. I no longer believe that as Brady is QB2 through 7 weeks and has scored 178 fantasy points. He’s averaging 25 points per game and has 4 games with over 22 points. If you take out the 10 point let-down in Week 1, Brady is averaging 28 points per game. Go Tom Go.

Brady Counts Rings2.gif

Bust: Have to go with Terrelle Pryor, the 1 year wonder himself. After finishing as WR22 last year and going in the third round of our draft, Pryor is currently WR71. He only has one game with more than 10 points and has just one touchdown catch on the year. If you take out his 6 catch game in week 1, he hasn’t caught more than 3 passes in any game. He also hasn’t eclipsed 70 yards receiving in any single game and has 31 yards or fewer in 4 of 6 games. To make matters worse he was Lamone’s third round pick in two separate leagues. Double whammy. He is projected for 3.4 points this week.....

Steal: This is kinda weak, but I’m gonna go with Pierre Garcon. Garcon was the 111th pick in our draft, or the first pick in the 12th round. Despite going that late he’s currently WR25 in our league. On the year he has 38 catches for 483 yards for an average of 5 catches for 70 yards per game. He hasn’t scored a TD yet, but that makes it even more impressive that he’s a top 25 WR. He’s clearly the #1 option for the 49ers passing game and he should continue to be a reliable WR2 or flex.

INTERVIEW: JacksON Jacks-OFF: 2-5

1. In a sentence or two, tell me how you feel about your team…..

How do i feel about my team...I feel better about a lot of things in life

2. Now describe your team in 4 words or less.

Better luck next year.

(Editor's Note: Kev? Get lucky? No way.)

3. Are you surprised by the play of your wide receivers? Michael Crabtree and Jarvis Landry are currently both top 12 WRs in fantasy points. Do you think they’ll be able to keep it up?

I am not shocked by their excellence.  Crabtree has never been a sorry ass receiver and has a great red zone presence with D Carr.  Jarvis always gets a ton of looks, his targets are some of the tops in the league, even with Jay Cutler (out with cracked ribs - whats up!) behind the helm.  Let's see about production, don't want to get over confident here, but i think these two can propel my team to victory a few more times only to lose a tie-breaker or get upset by Justin Tucker in the final game of the season.  History repeats itself and I can see the History of my fantasy football teams flashing before my eyes. Oh well.

Tucker dabbin all over Kev.

Tucker dabbin all over Kev.

4. Overall what do you like best about your team and what do you like the least about your team?

I'll start with what I like least, Aaron Rodgers getting injured.  I thought he was going to be a backbone of my team, putting up 25-30 every game.  Wish he broke some ribs like myself and Jay Cutler, that's way easier to play thru.  Best thing about my team now is the prospects of running backs, AP looking like his former self, Shady putting up 30 last game, looks good for the rest of the season, but please see comment above

5. Who do you think will win the league this year?

Its a two horse race at this point. Keetz and Beankkake, pulling for Keetz since Täige has too much real estate on that trophy.

6. Are you in any other leagues? If so, how are those going for you?

Im in one other league with Work. After winning that league last year i thought it was going to be a breeze, unfortunately not, let's just say I'm hoping for a better second half of the season.

7. Who do you think is the next league member to get engaged?

Guy...Guy because hes been with Kierney forevAH. West coast needs some action.

(Editor’s Note: That’s 3 votes for Guy, 3 votes for Kev and 1 vote for Ken. (Cumulative results)

8. Speaking of which, you’re a popular candidate for that last question. Any news on that front for you?

No new news, but you guys will be the first to know.

(Editor's Note: Kev will definitely text us in the group chat if this happens.....definitely.)

9. When’s the next time you’ll be in the Boston area?

Because of my love for the Jets, I was pushing for a trip to Gillette on New Years Eve day game. Could be a good time if any of yoose are interested.

(Editor's Note: I actually might be going to that game too, I have to check. If so we are definitely meeting up.)

10. Any final thoughts you would like to share with the league? The floor is yours…

Thanks Commish.  You probably dont hear it enough, but I think we all appreciate the time and effort that goes into this. Love reading this shit each week, so thanks.

Also, wtf is Pete up to with the bachelor party, haven't heard from him since 'nam. Anyways, looking forward to partying with you guys a couple times in the near future. A topic that has fallen off the table is the draft at Ken's wedding, thats definitely happening.

From New York, with love - Kevin

(Editor's Note: No problem Kev, as always I strive to bring a little extra to this league and ensure it is your "best" or "important". League. With raised buy-ins it's also definitely your "money" league.

Hopefully Pete will get his act together on that soon. I think he was a little let-down we couldn't make the Ohio State thing work - it was an awesome time. Hopefully it'll be something cheap where we can just bro-out for 2 days.

A draft the weekend of Ken's wedding is possible, but we have to see how his honeymoon planning goes. It's all about Ken!!)
