2017 George W. Bush League Draft Recaps - 4th Pick
PICK:
4TH OVERALL
TEAM:
RatDick and the Peabody Steamers, owned by Dylan Whiting. Interesting he took my former name and a name that Ken should have taken……interesting.
TOP 5:
Dylan drew the 4th pick in this year’s drafted and opted to go with Julio Jones. Julio is a beast and Dylan should enjoy having him on the squad. He finished as the WR7 last year and has finished with 1,400 yards and 6+ TDs in three straight seasons. Julio had 7 games with 100+ yards last year and 96 in another, so he’s pretty much going to get you a 100 yard game half the time. Not bad at all. I will say this though – Julio doesn’t score too many touchdowns. It’s really weird, in 6 seasons he has just 40. He had only 6 last year, 8 in 2016 and 6 again in 2015. That doesn’t seem right so maybe some favorable regression is coming.
Dylan then went RB-RB with his next two picks and snagged Jordan Howard and Christian McCaffrey. I really really like both of these picks. Jordan Howard is criminally underrated and I’ve been trying to get him on one of my teams all summer. He had 14 or more points in each of his last 9 games and is one of the main reasons Robby D made it as far as he did in the playoffs. Come to think of it – Robby D had Julio as well last year… you can’t make this stuff up. Howard also has a good offensive line so he should be really solid/consistent this year. McCaffrey in the third is another pick I really like and not just because he’s White Goodman. It’s because he’s white….and he’s good, man. The former Heisman candidate is Ice Cube XPLOSIVE and is going to be fun to watch this year. He should rack up something like 50 catches and 175 carries and he may even return kicks. Look at this shifty motherfucker....
Dylan closed out his top 5 with Deandre Hopkins and Greg Olsen. Hopkins was arguably the biggest WR bust in 2016, but Cocksuck Osweiler is gone and he can be free again. Free to terrorize cornerbacks and make absurdly athletic catches. I think 75 catches, 1,000 yards and 8 TDs would be his floor. Dylan got robbed of his boy Travis Kelce in the 5th round, but he made up for it with the selection of Olsen (more on this later, fucking auto-draft Demagistris). Olsen doesn’t make a Gronk-like impact, but he’ll be a top 5 TE and should approach 1,000 yards receiving. He only had 3 TDs last year so he’s also probably due for some positive regression (like Julio). All in all nicely done Dyl.
NEXT 5:
After a really strong start to the draft Dylan came back to earth a bit in the middle rounds. While some of these picks could really pay off, some of them might be worthless. I sorta like these guys, but I sorta don’t. Let’s take a look at Devante Adams, Willie Snead, Paul Perkins, Sammy Watkins and Jameis Winston.
Jameis is a breakout candidate this year after the Bucs added OJ Howard and Desean Jackson to his arsenal of Mike Evans and…..Mike Evans. While I could see Jameis having a big year, I’m not sure I’d want him as my starting QB. Truth be told I’d be shocked if Dylan doesn’t have another QB starting for him at some point this year. His completion percentage last year was on the “barely acceptable” range (60.8%) and he threw 18 picks with SIX FUMBLES.
Paul Perkins is another guy I don’t really like. Let’s remember this is the guy who couldn’t beat out Rashad Jennings last year and seemingly can’t keep Orleans Darkwa out of the sleeper conversation. The Giants have a terrible offensive line and are going to be a throw-first team. He’s technically a starter, but I’m not too excited about him.
Devante Adams is another “fence guy” for me. I appreciate he had a really good 2016 and I appreciate Aaron Rodgers, but can you honestly expect him to be the #8 WR again this year? He had three games with multiple TDs and 12 overall, which seems a bit "rich". And not Guy Ritch. Unsustainable would be a better word.
Last two: Willie Snead was a nice pick in the 7th round, he should consume a chunk of the Brandin Cooks targets. Sammy Watkins was another nice pick in the 9th round and will definitely not be as bad as he was last year. Based on talent alone this is a great pick and could be a steal.....Jared Goff pending.
LAST 5:
Dylan picked it back up for the back end and had a really strong finish. He took his kicker, defense, backup QB and some RB depth.
Kicker – Matt Prater kicks for the Lions indoors with Matthew Stafford. Solid.
QB – speaking of Stafford, he’s really good insurance for Winston in case Jameis shits the bed.
D – Giants D was pretty underrated coming into this season. I think people forgot how lock-down they were late in the year.
RBs – Terrance West is a starting RB in the 11th round…….. yes please. Theo Rattdick could be a top 20 RB if Ameer gets hurt…..yes please.
STRENGTH:
His strength is clearly his WRs. Julio is a perennial fantasy beast and DeAndre Hopkins is your SECOND best wide receiver. Daddy like. Although I don’t necessarily trust Devante Adams, his ESPN ADP is 47 and Dylan got him at 57. As Karpel used to say – VALUE.
While Willie Snead and Sammy Watkins may be useless, there’s no denying they both have huge upside and barely cost Dylan anything. Wide Receiver Strong.
WEAKNESS:
I guess I’ll say running back here. While I personally like all of Dylan’s choices, there are some definite ricks. Such as…………
Jordan Howard plays on a shit team with a shit QB. 8 men in the box like Lionel Ritchie. McCaffrey is just a rookie and who knows how much Jonathan Stewart will cut into his work load. I already said my piece on Perkins – School for the Blind. West also has an iffy offensive line and I don’t even know if Flacco will play week 1. Lastly, while it pains me to naysay my spirit child Theo Rat-Dick City, there is a chance Ameer Abdullah runs the show. Theo also had two surgeries last year – on each of his wrists. Too much jaggin off.
DRAFT GRADE, PREDICTION AND FINAL NOTES:
I will give Dylan a B+ for this draft and a grade of an 88.5 out of 100. Right in the Keetz range, but it’s hard to say which one I like better. I’ll call it a tie. He has really good receivers, a top flight TE, options at QB and high upside RBs. Overall I don’t see any glaring holes in his roster.
I’ll predict that Dylan will go 7-6 and make the playoffs, but lose in the first round. He hasn’t made the playoffs in a few years, but I think he gets back there in 2017. While he has a good team and I personally like most of his players, I just don’t think he has quite enough to take the trophy. Still, I expect a solid season despite his questionable team name.
