WEEK 10 RECAPS - PART 1
WEEK 10 WRITEUPS
And we’re back for another abbreviated version of GWBL Weekly Entertainment. I’m currently in the final week of my Fall busy season, so these will be short and quick hitting like last week. Regardless, I will produce the writeups and hopefully provide some good talking points in the group chat.
We’re rapidly approaching the final week of the regular season and believe it or not, we only have three weeks to go. With that, I’m going to post 3 questions for each team – the answers of which will determine the rest of their season. I’ll go from bottom of the standings to the top and put this out in 2 installments (more clicks for the sites’ stats duh). I feel like I do something like this every year, but I don’t care - it always interests me.
Before we start however, I want to look back at the matchup previews from last week and see how they went. Here we go.
Matchup 1 Prediction:
Guy 125: Frader 115
I agree with the projection: Guy for the win. Frader is missing Deandre Hopkins this week and both of his starting RBs are questionable to play on Sunday. Oh and Todd Gurley.
Result: Spot on here as Guy took down Frader 128:96. Almost predicted Guy’s score as well, go Commish.
Matchup 2 Prediction:
Ken 125: Robby D 100
Hate to say it but I don’t see any way Ken loses this matchup. His team is as good as or better than Robby D’s at every position. I think a 25 point spread is reasonable and I’d probably take Ken to beat it.
Result: Two for two as Kenny dominated Robby D 157:108. Nothing to see here, best team in the league took care of business.
Matchup 3 Prediction:
Tieg 154: Lamone 125
I agree with ESPN yet again, Tieg will get his 8th win and Lamone will fall to 3-7. How can you possibly beat a team that has Gordon, Hunt and James White?
Result: A shocker here as Lamone took down Tieg for the second time this season. Tieg’s only lost 3 games and 2 of those came vs Lamone – gotta love fantasy.
Matchup 4 Prediction:
Keetz 139: Dylan 145
This is actually the closest matchup we have on paper so I’m hoping for a close one. Although the projections give the slight edge to Keetz, I say Dylan gets it done here. Highest scoring matchup of the week.
Result: Wrong on the score, but I was right that this was the highest scoring matchup of the week. Keetz took the bulletin board material and shoved it up our butts. 50% right now.
Matchup 5 Prediction:
Kev 120: Commish 110
Watch this be the week where my opponent doesn’t go off, but I just don’t get it done. Same thing happened in Week 4 and that lost has almost cost me my season. This loss will.
Result: My team exploded, Kev’s didn’t show up. This is the second time I’ve wasted points on a week when my opponent didn’t top 81 points. Sequencing is everything in fantasy and I’m on the wrong end of it this year.
Overall not great, 40% accuracy. I’ll be better next time. Alright now on to the meat of the writeup – three questions for each team.
DalvinCooKens AfricanRhino (1-9)
One: Is Robby D going to win another game this season? He’s had a rough year to date and currently ranks dead last in points scored (avg 107 per week). He’s the only team eliminated from playoff contention, so he’ll look to play spoiler from here on out.
Two: Piggy backing on the above, who’s season is Robby d gonna spoil? He plays Kev, myself and Dylan to close out the year. All 3 are 5-5 and hanging on to their playoff lives. I guarantee he beats me next week just because I wrote this. FML.
Three: How much is Robby D gonna get out of Dalvin Cook the rest of the way? Cook’s been a colossal bust this year, but scored 15 points before his Week 10 bye. Fully healthy and motivated, I bet Cooks has a big end to the fantasy season. Putting up 30 against me next week, count it.
SLAMMY TWATSKiNS (4-6)
One: Can Lamone save his season by getting another win this week? Four straight losses between weeks 6 and 9 put him on the cusp of elimination, but his underdog win against Tieg may have saved him.
Two: Is David Johnson back? His demise has been exaggerated (currently RB10), but he finally had that big DJ game all his owners were waiting for. He scored 38 fantasy points on 21 carries, 98 yards, 7 catches, 85 yards and 2 TDs. That was easily his highest mark of the season and DJ owners are feeling good. Up next a matchup vs the Raiders….
Three: Is George Kittle better than Gronk? Kittle is currently TE4 only behind Ertz, Kelce and Eric Ebron. We know he’s better than Ebron, so does that make him the #3 TE in football? As of right now I’d have to say yes.
You Done Messed Up, A A RON! (4-6)
One: I asked it above and I’ll ask it again – will Frader’s team show up this week and get him back in the playoff mix? Or will they drop to 4-7 and effectively end his season. The projections favor Frader, but it’s a slim 4 point margin at press time.
Two: Can Frader figure out the Bears backfield? He starts Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard goes off (Week 9). He then starts both only for Jordan Howard to score 6 points in Week 10. The Bears offense has been frustrating as hell (looking at you Allen Robinson and Trey Burton) and it’s gonna be a tough decision every week.
Three: Is Aaron Rodgers a top 5 QB? He’s currently QB10 this year and isn’t even close to returning his draft day value – Round 4, 35th overall, first QB taken. He only has 2 games this year with more than 30 points which is disappointing. Even more disappointing is he hasn’t topped 22 points in any of his last 3 games.
The GOAT And His Kids (5-5)
One: Likewise, what’s up with TB12? He may be the GOAT in NFL history, but he certainly isn’t the GOAT in fantasy right now. Three straight games with 19 or fewer points heading into the Pats bye and he currently ranks as QB12 – that’ll go down after this week. He just killed Kev’s team in Week 10 with an 11.5 dud vs the Titans.
Two: Can Kev stop the bleeding this week? He was 5-3 after Week 8 and coming off a 142 point beat down of Ken. Since then he’s scores 183 combined fantasy points and lost both of his matchups. Keetz scored more fantasy points than that this past week alone. The schedule gods favor him as he faces off against Robby D in Week 11.
Three: How will James Conner do now that Le’Veon is officially out for the season? He had one of his worst games of the season this past week, scoring 16.4 fantasy points on Thursday night (boo hoo). He suffered a concussion which isn’t good, but he should be fine for this weekend.
