WEEK 3 - PART 2

WEEK 3 - PART 2

KingoftheNorth Shore defeats The Skid Row Nightcrawlers 151 to 112.7

It’s been a great start to the season for Robby D and he’s currently in 3rd place. There are plenty of positives to take away here so let’s get into it. The first is Greg Olsen. Robby D grabbed Greg Olsen off waivers on Saturday 9/7 for $0 of FAAB and quickly gave him the starting job over his 15th round pick Jimmy Graham. Olsen stumbled a bit in week 1 with just 5.6 points, but he’s been a top 5 TE since then. In Week 2 he put up 6 catches for 110 yards (16 points) and in Week 3 he put up another 6 catches for 75 yards and 2 TDs (22.5 points). The QB switch in Carolina seems to be helping all of their skill players and Olsen is no exception – young QBs tend to gravitate towards TEs so Robby D has to be feeling great about this pick up.

The next player is someone I’ve hated on during the draft recaps and writeups – Derrick Henry. Until now I thought Henry was overrated and I thought the Titans offense would stink. I may have been right about one of those things, but I was wrongwrongwrong on Derrick Henry. Robby D’s 4th round pick has been given 15 or more carries in every single game and is RB6 on the year. Even when his team stinks, Henry still can produce solid numbers – Henry scored twice as many fantasy points (14.5) as the Titans offense (7) in Week 3 which is a promising development for KingoftheNorth Shore.

The Skid Row Nightcrawlers lose to KingoftheNorth Shore 112.7 to 151

Guy finds himself at 1-2 to start the year, but not all is lost. First things first, 1-2 isn’t even a bad record. Win this week and he’s right back in it. He’s also tied for the last playoff spot if the season ended today so it’s not like he’s out of contention already. Yes he’d lose the tiebreaker, but he still has plenty of time to catch up in points – only 38 behind Ken. Guy also doesn’t care AT ALL about football/fantasy football, so if anyone is going to have a rough start to the season it may as well be him.

Back to positives – the Bears D. Taking a D/ST in the 10th round generally isn’t advisable and it was looking like a poor decision through 2 weeks. They had an okay start with 8 points in Week 1, but did next to nothing for owners in Week 2 (4 pts). That all changed thanks to the Washington Redskins who allowed the bears D to score 20 points on MNF. 3 picks, 2 fumbles, 4 sacks and a pick-6 is exactly what Bears D/ST owners were thinking when they drafted this unit. They have Kirk Cousins this week and the Raiders in Week 5 so the upcoming schedule is favorable.

The Permian Panthers defeat sorry for everything 134.7 to 123.8

I was hoping to stay away from first round picks in this writeup, but I have to break that rule here. Joe Mixon FINALLY did something! I knew taking him with my first pick was a risk as the Bengals are a piss poor franchise and their offensive line is offensive. That said, their o-line was supposed to be better this year and they have an exciting offensive minded coach. Mixon is still really talented and I bet on the talent. Through two weeks I couldn’t have looked more dumb as Mixon ran 17 times for 27 yards and mustered a grand total of 10.3 fantasy points. Things changed this week as the Bengals offense found some rhythm and Mixon put up 19.5 points – nearly doubling his season total. He’s most likely not going to be worth the first round pick I spent, but if I can get solid RB2 production from him it’ll be huge for my team.

I’ll stick with the Bengals and go Tyler Boyd as the second positive. A 5th round pick who has 24 catches for 250 yards through 3 games? Sign me right up. That’s a pace of 128 catches for 1,300 yards over a 16 game season. He hasn’t scored a TD yet and likely won’t score many, but if I can get 4-6 out of him this season that’s a great return for the 50th pick in the draft.

sorry for everything loses to The Permian Panthers 123.8 to 134.7

Positive 1: Tieg found an RB1 – Frank Gore is a machine and will once again put up passable fantasy numbers at the ripe age of 145. Gore put up 18.7 points during Week 3 on 89 total yards and a TD. He’s averaging about 15 carries a game and as I said with Derrick Henry Hill above, that has serious value in this league. He only cost Tieg $7 of FAAB, so I’d say this is a win (especially considering I paid $30 for Devin Singletary….puke).

Positive #2: While he likely lost the Michael Thomas/Carlos Hyde trade, Tieg definitely won the Darren Waller/Hunter Henry trade. Tieg acquired Waller from Lamone on 9/6 and he is a top 5 TE through 3 weeks. He got off to a solid start, but his coming out party came in Week 3. In a tough matchup against the Vikings, he caught 13 of 14 targets for 134 yards and 22.8 fantasy points. He’s currently 12th among all NFL players in receiving yards and only 2 TEs (Engram/Kelce) have more receiving yards than him. Oh yeah and Hunter Henry? Immediately injured and out til like Week 10.

Positive #3: Huge news on the Melvin Gordon front today – he is looking to end his holdout and rejoin the Chargers. While there are no guarantees yet, it was known Gordon would likely report at some point in mid-season. It looks like that time is coming up and Tieg really needs it if he’s going to dig himself out of this 0-3 hole. If Gordon comes back and reassumes his workload/production from last year, it would be the purest of pure taige.
