WEEK 11 - PART 1
WEEK 11 RECAPS – TWO QUESTIONS:
Welcome back for some GWBL entertainment, Week 11 edition. Two weeks remain in the regular season and only 5 until fantasy is over. Crazy. This week we’re going to take a look at each team and pose two questions. They could be about players, playoff position, matchups, you name it. Regardless of the subject, the answers to these questions will go a long way to determining how the rest of the season plays out. In reverse order of the standings:
Make America Gordon Again (2-9):
ONE: How many more games will Tieg win this year? After starting the season with a 9-game losing streak, Mr Auto Draft has ripped off two straight wins against Guy and Kev. He even put up a season high 143.7 in Week 11, which was also the high score of the week. He plays two tough teams in the final two weeks (Commish/Ken), but if I know Tieg he’s gonna go down swinging.
TWO: Related to #1, but can Tieg avoid the Gabriel this year? He’s 1 game behind Guy (3-8) and 2 behind Kev (4-7) with two weeks to go. While he’s 123 points behind Kev in total scoring, he’s only 45.5 behind the Skid Row Nightcrawlers. As crazy at is sounds it’s not out of the question.
The Skid Row Nightcrawlers (3-8):
ONE: Is 3-8 the worst record of any team who owns Christian McCaffrey? Run CMC has been the #1 RB in fantasy the entire season and AVERAGES 33 points per game in our scoring. In my four other leagues, the teams that have McCaffrey are 7-4, 9-2, 6-5 and 7-4. Despite having the best player in fantasy (non-QB), Guy is somehow 3-8. If anyone is in a league where the McCaffrey owner is worse than 3-8 I’d be interested to hear it.
TWO: Can Guy hold off Tieg’s assault and avoid the Gabriel? A few weeks ago that would have been a laughable statement, but with 2 weeks to go it’s a legitimate concern. While Tieg has won two in a row, Guy has dropped two straight and opened the door for Tieg to avoid the BIG G. Big two weeks coming up for Guy, no pressure.
MaKamaraca Great Again (4-7):
ONE: What did Kev do to deserve this bad luck? Is he a serial killer in his spare time? Does he kill puppies for fun? Did he reverse-sell his soul to the devil? There’s just no other explanation for the horrible luck he has year in and year out. We needn’t look any further than Week 11: Kev lost to Tieg despite putting up 124 points. Kev would have beaten 6 of the 9 teams, but Tieg wasn’t one of them. To make matters worse, Tieg beat him by a) putting up his season high and b) putting up a league high in Week 11. After 8 weeks Kev was 4-4 and in the hunt. Three weeks and three losses later, he’s 4-7 and out of the playoffs.
TWO: But not so fast – Could Kev still make the playoffs? He plays Ken this week which sounds like a mismatch until you look at Ken’s roster. Dak plays the Patriots D, Gurley plays the resurgent Ravens D, Aaron Jones plays the 49ers, Evan Engram is hurt and Tyreek Hill/Thielen are on byes. Then in Week 12 Kev plays Robby D who is 1 game ahead of him and coming off a disaster Week 11 (more on that next). I don’t want to jynx it, but I think Kev is still alive…
KingoftheNorth Shore (5-6):
ONE: Is JuJu the biggest bust of the 2019 season? He’s currently WR40 after a pitiful 3.1 point performance on TNF. Yes he got hurt and I hope he’s okay, but wow he’s been brutal. He’s scored 5.9 or fewer points in 5 of his 11 games and only has one game with more than 20 points.
TWO: Was Week 11’s performance by Robby D the worst performance in league history? Not one of his players put up more than 10 points and his highest scorer was the Bills D with 9. His kicker put up -0.5 points. Phillip Rivers threw 4 interceptions on his bench and still outscored Deshaun Watson…doubled his point total actually. The 42.7 points he put up are certainly the lowest total of 2019. The next lowest total was the 74.2 Ken scored in Week 9 and aside from that, no one has gone below 83 this year.
Dylan has the official worst performance in league history – the 20 points he put up in Week 2 of the 2012 season. Scoring has increased quite a bit since then with the points per carry, fractional scoring and other rules, so it’s definitely possible Robby D’s was as bad as this one. I’ll tally this up in the year-end recaps, it could be close.
Tell Sloan I Said What Up (5-6):
ONE: Will a team with a record below .500 make the playoffs? Currently both Dylan and Lamone are in with 5-6 records and our 7th seed Robby D also has a 5-6 record. Looking back at it now I don’t think it’s actually ever happened. Ken got in at 5-8 in 2013, but that was the year of Tone’s death penalty and Ken wouldn’t have made it if we didn’t boot Tone. We might witness history this year, but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.
TWO: Is Saquon going to salvage his season? He’s currently RB23 on the year after being the consensus #1 pick. He’s coming off of a game where he had 13 carries for 1 yard and 5 catches for 30 yards. He’s nursing shoulder and ankle injuries and there are already rumors that the Giants might shut him down. It’ll be interesting to see how he finishes the season.
