GW Bush League - Week 10 (Part 1)
Ladies, Gentlemen and Guy,
Welcome back to another week of GW Bush League entertainment. We’re 10 weeks in with 3 weeks to go. Other than the 1st place seed, just about everything is up for grabs. No matter what happens it will be an interesting end to the season. On to this week’s entertainment…..
Person 1: “STOP!! He who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three!!”
Person 2: “Ask me the questions bridge keeper, I am not afraid…”
Person 1: “WHAT is your name?”
Person 2: “My name is Ser Lancelot of Camelot”
Person 1: “What is your quest?”
Person 2: “To seek the Holy Grail.”
Person 1: “WHAT..…is your favorite color??”
Person 2: “..Blue!”
Person 1: “Fine…off you go…”
Person 2: “Oh…uh thank you…thank you very much…”
Some of you will recognize that exchange from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Some of you will not, that movie is pretty old. Still, it’s hilarious and has some timeless jokes in there. Anyways I will be your bridge keeper today. For this week’s entertainment I will pose three questions for each team. Since there are three weeks left in the season I thought it was fitting. The questions could be about the roster, management, future prospects, playoff chances. Etc etc. In 2-3 weeks we’ll revisit these questions and determine the answers.
“Jakey-Jakey” Big Mistakey: (2-8)
Question 1: Has Guy totally given up on this season and accepted the Gabriel? “At the time he was betrayed he entered willingly into his passion”…… or something like that. I noticed that he kept Matt Forte in his starting lineup this week and started Josh McCown over Marcus Mariota. The McCown over Mariota thing is defendable, but the Forte one is not – he was ruled out last Friday which is a full 2 days before the game. Don’t give up on us Guy.
Question 2: Can Golden Tate finish as a top 5 WR? Tate has been on fire the last four games, catching a combined 27 passes for 392 yards and 2 TDs. He’s scored 10 or more fantasy points in each of those contests and has a total of 64.7 points in that time. He’s currently WR7 and looks to be hitting his stride as we enter the back end of the season (there’s an “enter the back end” joke in here somewhere…). Personally I think he will be a top 5 WR – him and Stafford are cruising right now.
Question 3: Is this the worst team we’ve ever seen in the GW Bush League? I hate to be mean and pile on, but Guy just beat me so I don’t feel bad. In all seriousness though, this team is pretty bad. Through 10 weeks, Guy has scored just 874.5 points – an average of 87.5 per week. If you prorate that over the next three weeks, Guy will only have 1,136 points this season. Five of our teams have already surpassed that in 10 games. Going further, I looked at the Gabriels from the past three years – Frader, Lamone and Keetz. Frader had about 1,500 points last year, Lamone had 1,350 in 2015 and Keetz had 1,196 in 2014. All of those teams outscored Guy’s current pace (1,136 per above), which proves his team is the worst Gabriel team in the last 4 years (if all things hold). Even with the inflationary scoring I don’t know if Guy will beat Keetz’ mark from 2014. I hate to say it but this might be the worst team in GW Bush League History. (Other than Karpel but that doesn’t count cuz he was pilled out.)
THE STAR OF LARRY DAVID JOHNSON: 2-8
Question 1: Will Frader repeat as the Gabriel? Based on everything I’ve said about Guy’s team the answer is “probably not”. That being said it needs to be asked and I’m here to take a look. If they both lose out, could Guy possibly surpass Frader? He’s 77 points behind Larry David Johnson, so he’d have to score 25 more EACH WEEK to do so. Unlikely.
So could Guy win a game while Frader goes winless? Guy plays Keetz, Kev and Robby D. Frader plays Tieg, Dylan and my overachieving team. I’ll call this a push. I haven’t won a Week 13 game in like 5 years, but Guy plays Kev in one of his matchups. Even stevens.
So what’s the tie breaker? I have to go effort here. While Guy’s effort has been questionable all season, Frader’s has not. Based on that I have to give this to Frader – he will likely not be the Gabriel twice in a row.
Question 2: Will Russel Wilson finish as QB1 this year? He’s currently sitting there with a total of 239 points on the year, which is 26.6 per game. That’s actually the most of ANY player in our league which is pretty crazy. He’s 4 ahead of Gurley and 10 ahead of Alex Smith and TB12. As for his remaining schedule – it’s favorable. He plays the Falcons at home, then goes to San Fran (ironic eh Frader?) and wraps up with a trip to Philly. He’s currently QB1 and the schedule is pretty favorable.
Question 3: Will David Johnson play again this year? The first overall pick in our draft has been out since Week 1 with a wrist injury. You figure an RB could come back sooner with that type of injury, but he must have really fucked up his wrist. Either way his cast came off Monday and it is possible he will play this season. Let’s just hope he doesn’t start jaggin off before he’s ready.
JacksON Jacks-OFF: 2-8
Question 1: Is Kev the most unlucky fantasy football player of all time?
But seriously, the poor guy. He’s got the most points against in our league which sucks on ice – 1297 total through 10 games. You don’t need to read tea leaves to see that his opponents score 130 every single week. That 1297 is also 125 more points than the 2nd highest team. That’s at least 12.5 points per week more than any other team for you keeping score at home. Every team Kev plays against basically has an extra FLEX in their lineup. By comparison, Rob D has only 972 points against…………. OVER THREE HUNDRED FEWER POINTS.
Question 2: Is this going to be a career year for Jarvis Landry? He currently has 61 catches for 472 yards and 5 TDs in 9 games. If you prorate that over a 16 game season that’s 108 catches for 840 yards and almost 9 TDs. That would be his second highest catch total, third highest yardage total and highest TD total. So yeah, if he keeps it up it might be a career year – but mainly due to the TDs. Let’s see how he finishes.
Question 3: Can Kev win any more games this year? He’s seemingly at rock bottom and has to be pretty down on his team right now. He pretty much had a win locked up against me this past week until Cam Newton ripped his heart out and stomped on it. Or as Frader does to girls – broke his heart into a million fucking pieces. CLASSIC ALI THOMPSON!! CLASSIC!!
Anyways let’s look at his schedule He’s got Ken, Guy and Keetz to end the season. Keetz is obviously a loss and Guy is likely a win, but what about Ken? This Week 11 matchup is HUGE for Ken’s season, so maybe Kev can play spoiler…. (SPOILER ALERT: he’ll probably lose in heartbreaking fashion).
THE FOURNETTEUATE FEW: 4-6
Question 1: Is Ken really a 4-6 team? He’s on pace to finish at 5-8, so I guess that’s the better question. Is he really a 5-8 team? I don’t think so. Ken is actually the 4th highest scoring team in our league. He’s outscored my team by 1 point, Dylan’s by 68 and Lamone’s team by over 120 – all three of those teams are currently 6-4. He’s middle of the pack in points against (6th most), but that doesn’t tell the story. Matchup luck does. He’s lost two games where he scored 120 points, which is really really really bad luck. If he wins even one of those he’s 5-5 and right in the hunt. Instead he lost and he’s 2 games back. Regardless I think he finishes better than 5-8.
Question 2: Going with the above – can Ken make a run to the playoffs? Currently the teams ranked 3-6 are all 6-4 – Tieg, my team, Lamone and Dylan. Ken is 4-6. If Ken wins out, he’ll be 7-6. If the point totals hold and me, Dylan or Lamone go 1-2 the rest of the way, we’d also be 7-6. Ken would be in the playoffs and one of us would be out. Holy shit. It doesn’t stop there - even if Ken goes 2-1 he could still beat one of us. If me, Tieg, Lamone or Dyl lose all of our remaining games and Ken goes 2-1 – he could make it on a tie breaker. Holy shit, Ken’s gonna make the playoffs.
Question 3: What can we expect out of Leonard Fournette going forward? Fournette was in the conversation for fantasy MVP through 6 weeks. The third round pick in our draft had scored 15 or more points in every game and had scored a TD in every game. He was a top 3 RB and life was great. Unfortunately he got injured, had a bye and then missed week 9 for a suspension. Then he scored his season low 9 points in Week 10. So is this it? Has he hit the rookie wall? (looking at you Kareem Hunt). I don’t think so, but we’ll find out soon enough. If anything these past four weeks were a perfect breather and he'll dominate down the stretch.
JABAAL PAP SHMEARD: 6-4
Question 1: Will Alvin Kamara really finish as a top 10 RB this year? He’s currently RB10 and if the last 4 weeks are any indication…..he might finish higher than that. The rookie out of Tennessee has scored 15 or more points in every game since week 7. He’s had 11 or more carries in each of those games, recorded 76 or more yards in each and has scored a TD in each of the last 4 as well. His best performance of the season came in Week 10 when he had 17 touches for 138 yards and a TD. This is looking like the free agent pick up of the year.
Question 2: Can Lamone overcome his terrible WR group? His WRs have been an issue all year as evidence by the fact he used a 3rd round pick on Terrelle Pryor. Even worse – he’s currently starting Cooper Kupp in his WR1 spot. WIDE RECEIVER 1!!! Kupp isn’t even a top 40 WR and yet he’s in Lamone’s #1 slot. He’s also got Sterling Shepard who could be really good down the stretch, but still. This definitely could be the weakest WR group in the league.
Question 3: How will Jay Ajayi do with the Eagles? He did great in his first game with the team – 15 points on 77 rushing yards and a TD. But was that flukey, or will he be a stud? It’s tough to say. Everything I’ve been hearing has said the Eagles are still going to use Blount and Corey Clement….. that’s obviously not good. There’s no denying Ajayi is the best back they have though…. That’s good. I just don’t see why they’d trade for him to be part of a committee, but what do I know. He’ll probably be a bum the rest of the year.
