WEEK 4 RECAPS - PART 2

WEEK 4 RECAPS - PART 2

Zeke-A-Tyreek defeats DeAngelo Vickers 166.7 to 92.3

NEWS: Keetz is back in the win column after a 2 game losing streak – aka things are back to normal in the league. Although he put up a shit-load of points, I would be annoyed if I were him. In any other week that 166 gets you the weekly high score and the $25 payout. Unfortunately for him, Dylan edged him out by 2 points. The other thing that sucks is he didn’t NEED those points. Guy barely put up a fight, so the points were kind of wasted. I’m a big believer of timing in fantasy sports, and this is a perfect example of when timing bites you in the ass. For example: Keetz put up 116 and 109 in his two losses (Week 2 and 3). If he had swapped either of those scores with his Week 4 score, he’s 3-1. Timing is a bitch sometimes.

NOTES: Is Tyreek Hill still good? He’s technically still WR1 in our scoring, but that’s only because he blew up in Week 1 and scored 50 points (7 for 169, 2 TD and punt return TD). If you cut that 50 to a more reasonable 25 then he’s WR18. If you cut it even a little more to a 20 point game, he falls to WR23. In the three games since Week 1, he’s averaging a mediocre 6 catches for 65 and has just 1 TD – overall averaging 12.6 points per week during those 3 weeks. If he averaged 12.6 points each week of the season, he’d be WR29. A lot of if’s, may’s and would be’s, but regardless he’s in a sharp decline. Maybe other teams are scheming to stop him, maybe Mahomes is just spreading the ball around too much. Either way it’s a little concerning. You thought you had a sick WR1 with Hill, but now he kinda just looks like a middle of the pack WR2.

DeAngelo Vickers loses to Zeke-A-Tyreek 92.3 to 166.7

NEWS: Stop me if you’ve heard this before – Rob Gronkowski left Sundays game with an injury….. Guy’s second round pick left the Miami game after scoring 6.4 points on 4 catches for 44 yards. Now this is something you haven’t heard before – the Patriots still scored 38 points and TB12 had 3 TDs. Without Gronk? Yep. The Pats offense hasn’t been using Gronk the past few weeks as a matter of fact. Aside from his 21 point performance in Week 1, Gronk has scored 2.5, 7.1 and 6.4 points in the last three games. It’s obvious teams are selling out to stop him which is a little concerning for Guy. Even more concerning is that he’s a game time decision for tomorrow’s game.

ITS A MESS.gif

NOTES: Kind of a double feature here, but wanted to note two of Guy’s running backs. The first note is that Todd Gurley is super-human. He has four straight 27 point games to start the season and has a TD in all 4 games (6 total). Going back to last season, he has 27+ points in 7 straight games and a TD in all 7 (14 total TDs!). Good lord. The second feature is the downside, which is a different RB on Guys team – Kenyan Drake. He came into the season as a huge breakout candidate and the unquestioned starter in Miami. It hasn’t worked out that way, however. Over his last two games he has 8 rushes for 6 yards and 3 catches for 20 yards (5.7 fantasy points). He’s currently RB39, or the opposite of Todd Gurley.

Kens African Safari defeats You Done Messed Up A A Ron! 152.1 to 102.1

NEWS: Did everyone score 150 or more points this week? No, but it sure as hell seemed like it. In reality only 4 teams did, but holy shit. This had to be the highest scoring week of the year. For the hell of it, let’s confirm if that’s true. Going week by week, here’s the total points scored. Week 1: 1,267 points. Week 2: 1,254 points. Week 3:  1,196. Week 4: 1,304. So yes, this was the highest scoring week of the year. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was the highest scoring week ever, but I digress.

NOTES: Adam Thielen is the best WR in the NFL. There, I said it. Sure you have the Antonio Browns, Julio Jones and Michael Thomas’ of the world, but Thielen is better. At least for fantasy purposes. The **undrafted** wide receiver from Minnesota state is currently WR2 in the NFL behind Tyreek Hill (88 compared to 87.3, whoop de doo). He has four straight 100 yard games to open the season and is the only WR in the entire NFL who can say that. His 473 receiving yards are 2nd in the NFL and his 40 catches are also second. He’s the best WR in the NFL.

You Done Messed Up A A Ron! Loses to Kens African Safari 102.1 to 152.1

NEWS: Speaking of consecutive games with 100 yards – JuJu Smith Schuster had a chance to match Thielen’s feat. Over the first three weeks of the season, JuJu had 119, 121 and 116 yards. In Week 4 he had 60. Michael Thomas also disappointed after a big start to the season: 16 for 180, 12 for 89, 10 for 129 and then 4 for 47. Puke.

NOTES: This was just a brutal brutal brutal day for Frader, absolutely nothing went right for him. Tarik Cohen scored 32.5 points on the bench, while Jordan Howard scored 4.7 in his starting lineup. Chris Carson was declared inactive, so Frader wisely played Rashaad Penny in his place. In probably the biggest curveball of the season, Mike Davis rushed 21 times for 101 yards and 2 TDs. Mike Who?

Mike Davis. Mike Davis who had never carried the ball more than 16 times in a game before. Mike Davis who had 1 career rushing touchdown coming into the game. Yes, Mike Davis scored 33 points while Penny scored 8.7. OH YES, YES there’s one more. Sony Michel scored 25 on Frader’s bench. All in all, Frader’s bench scored 110, while his starters scored 102. I believe that’s the first time to happen all season.

WEEK 4 INTERVIEW, THE COMMISH:

I usually wait til the end of the year to be the subject of the interview, but I was too busy to coordinate with anyone this week. As a result, I had Tieg’s best friend Jay Stank interview me.

My goodness what a horrible vest. Smoked way too much senior year.

My goodness what a horrible vest. Smoked way too much senior year.

1. Hey Commish, how’s it going? How’s married life?

Hey man good to see you. Life is going pretty good. Hate my job and think about quitting every day, but I’m alive, in reasonably good health and have a great family. Can’t complain too much. Married life is solid. It’s definitely a little weird with the whole “being someone’s husband” thing, but Emma’s great and I’m a lucky man.

2. How’s fantasy football going for you? How many leagues this year?

Once again I’m in 5 different leagues. I have this one, which is of course the most important. I have a league with my old co-workers at Ernst & Young and current co-workers at PwC. I have a 4th league with some guys from high school (Lamone’s in that too) and the 5th league is a keeper league with a crew of mostly random dudes. I only know about 6 of the 12 guys and only do it because I wanted to see what a keeper league is like. Overall my record is 12-8 for the season I believe.

3. Damn that’s a lot of fucking leagues. You really love fantasy sports huh?

I love fantasy sports as much as I hate them – which is a lot. I’m also in two fantasy baseball leagues, which some of the dudes here joined – Kev, Keetz, Dylan, Lamone, Ken. I’m hoping to run that back and maybe bring more of the football league over. Finished 3rd place and 2nd place in those because I’m incapable of actually winning fantasy leagues.

4. Back to football, what do you think about your team this year?

I love certain parts about my team such as Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey and Travis Kelce. I also feel really annoyed with other parts of my team, namely my wide receivers and Lamar Miller. I think I’m somewhere in the middle of the pack so hopefully I can sneak into the playoffs. Probably not.

5. Who do you think are the best teams in the league this year, who can take the title?

You can never count Tieg out, just look at what his team did this past week. Any team who has Alvin Kamara or Todd Gurley is also a threat – they’re so good it’s almost bad for the game. Overall I’d have to say Kev has the best team. If Le’Veon comes back and produces like he usually does, we’re all fucked.

6. You mentioned that they’re “bad for the game”. You’ve gotten some heat for the love of parity recently – anything to say on that?

I was definitely a little sad to hear the criticism, I think that’s what makes this league awesome. Anyone except me has a chance to win and almost everyone has won it at one point. As a life philosophy, I’m a bit of a “utilitarian”. The greatest amount of good for the greatest number”, if you will. That might seems a little contradictory with my being a capitalist/republican/Patriots fan, but let’s not get into it. Overall I’m gonna keep running the league the only way I know how – to promote competitive balance.

7. Speaking of competitive balance, what do you think about the NFL this year?

It’s been great and we’re definitely seeing history in terms of the offensive numbers. I think the Rams will win the Super Bowl but the playoffs are going to be awesome.

8. Any final words for the league?

As always I want to thank you all for your time and attention. I say it every year, but I fucking love this league and I want to keep it going forever. We have an awesome crew and I think it helps keep us all in touch with each other. Looking forward to the next draft trip whenever that may be. I also want to thank you all for attending my wedding this past June. It meant a lot to me and Emma to have you there and I hope you all had a good time.

Commish Out
