2018 DRAFT RECAPS - 10TH OVERALL
Number 10: Caleb’s Bukake Party owned by Tieg Bean
First Five:
Tieg drew the 10th pick in this year’s draft despite not even making the playoffs last year. That was pretty much the exact opposite of what we went for with the draft order selection process, but what can you do….. At first glance that seems like a tough draw, but in reality it wasn’t – he theoretically gets to draft two top 10 players from that slot.
Anyways, Tieg went RB early and often like he does every year. He got a steal in Melvin Gordon at 10, then doubled down with Kareem Hunt in Round 2. Hunt was huge for parts of last year, but let Tieg down when it counted down the stretch. Hareem Khunt was a big reason why Caleb’s Bukake Party ended in Week 13.
Tieg diversified in Rounds 3-5 by taking WRs with all 3 picks. Amari Cooper was a colossal bust last year, but the last pick in the 3rd round seems like good value. I actually like the Larry Fitzgerald pick better (Larry finished as WR6 last year). His QB situation improved in the offseason and he’s a surefire hall of famer. Having David Johnson around should open things up too. Josh Gordon in round 5 was interesting to say the least. I’m kinda tired of his whole story line so I’m not about to take him on any of my teams. Still, there’s no denying the potential.
Next Five:
Tieg took two tight ends, an RB, a D/ST and his fourth WR in the middle rounds. While I wouldn’t agree with taking two TEs in your first 8 picks, he did get some talented players. Third Leg Greg Olsen in the 5th was a nice selection and I’m expecting a bounceback from him this year. If Greg gets hurt again, or Cam Newton continues to not look his way, Trey Burton Snowboards has been a popular sleeper/breakout pick. He’s a super bowl cheater, but an awesome athlete.
Carlos Mixons Here Hyde ur Gurley was a good pick at #70 overall. He looks to be Cleveland’s workhorse back and their offensive line is better than you think. A starting RB at the end of the 6th round is a value pick in my book. Tieg closed out the middle rounds by drafting the Rams D and Robert Tiger Tiger Tiger Woods Ya’ll. The Rams D got Ndomukong Suh, Aqib Talib AND Marcus Peters this year and should be a productive unit. Robert Woods on the other hand – a pretty solid pick considering his performance from last year (WR36 despite missing 6 games).
Last Five:
The last five rounds of Tieg’s draft went pretty well. He took a Patriot, an ex-Patriot, a handcuff, Frader’s favorite kicker and Derek Carr. The Derek Carr/Amari Cooper stack could be big this year. Crabtree is finally gone so those two might put up nice numbers. James White in the 11th round is a solid pick too – he won’t be a workhorse, but he’s a capable bye week fill in. Spencer Ware in the 14th round was a nice handcuff move. By himself he won’t have value, but Ware could be a huge safety net if Hunt were to go down.
Jimmy G in the 12th round was a high upside, low risk pick. While we all question his choice in busty old pornstars, there’s no denying his talent. Last but not least – Robbie Gould. He’s getting up there in years, but he actually had a big year last year. The QB/Kicker stack from San Fran could work out nicely for Tieg.
Grade:
I give Tieg a B for this draft – it’s good but I wouldn’t say it’s great. I think the Kareem Hunt pick might end up going south and I think taking him over Fournette was a mistake. The Chiefs offensive line is almost as bad as their defense so I worry about Hunt. The Josh Gordon pick could be a giant waste and I think the Trey Burton pick mighta been overkill. All in all though a solid draft, just not the best one I’ve seen.
Prediction:
I say Tieg finishes 6-7 and misses the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. His team is very solid, but I’m not sure it’s championship caliber.
