2020 DRAFT RECAPS - PART 3

Pick 3: COVID DAK-CINE, KEN PEABODY

What I Like:

10.jpg

Topical team name, very “dad-joke-like”, I can appreciate that.

Zeke is a good pick at 3 and getting Joe Mixon in Round 2 was a win for Ken as well. In my opinion Mixon is worth a 1st round pick based on his production that last 2 years. He’s totaled 1,400 all purpose yards each year and has accounted for 17 TDs in that time.

Julio Jones in the third round was an awesome pick. He’s getting older and typically battles nagging injuries, but he’s had 80+ catches and 1,400 yards receiving each of the last SIX seasons. Consistency is key in fantasy.

I also like the Dak pick – 7th round for a top 5 QB is great value.

What I Don’t Like:

Evan Engram, bleh. Talent is undeniable but this guy cannot stay healthy. He only played in 8 games last year and the Giants have a lot of mouths to feed (Saquon, Slayton, Tate, Sheppard, etc.)

Ken’s bench is kinda trash, no offense. There’s some upside, but for the most part I wouldn’t bother rostering any of those players given how deep our league is.

Grade & Prediction:

I give Ken a B for this draft, about an 83/100.

I predict Ken goes 7-6 and loses in the finals. Really good starters and I’m betting on Ken filling out his bench spots on the waiver wire.

Pick 2: RETURN OF THE MACK, JON FRADER

What I Like:

Saquon is my favorite RB in the NFL, so I love Frader’s 1st round pick. I wouldn’t have picked him over McCaffrey if I had #1, but I would have preferred to pick 2 so I could end up with Saquon and not have to make the choice. Despite missing 3 games last year, he still finished as RB12. And let’s not forget his rookie year when he accounted for more than 2,000 total yards and 15 TDs.

Frader got the #2 ranked RB and the #2 ranked TE - George Kittle. Kittle is a monster and in terms of pure football, is a better TE than Kelce (blocking included). The lack of TDs are a little concerning (only 5 last year), but that probably means he’s due.

This team has a ton of WR depth and it may be the best WR group on any team. Mike Evans, Odell Beckham, Marquise Brown, Tyler Boyd and Will Fuller are all big parts of their respective offenses.

What I Don’t Like:

Aside from Saquon Frader’s RBs are….let’s be nice and go with the word “bad”. His #2 is David Montgomery who likely won’t play in Week 1. His #3 is Ronald Jones. I forget if we heard about the Leonard Fournette signing before our draft, but either way Ronald Jones shouldn’t be anywhere near a starting lineup right now.

I also don’t love the Kyler Murray pick in Round 5. Not when you could get Dak Prescott/Deshaun Watson in Round 7 or Russel Wilson in Round 8.

Grade & Prediction:

I give Frader a B for the draft, about an 84/100. I like the start to his draft and he has great WRs, but man those RBs stink.

I predict Frader goes 7-6 and loses in the first round of the playoffs.

Pick 1: NEW TEAM, DARREN MORAN

What I Like:

DMO starts his foray into the GWBL armed with the #1 RB, #1QB and the #1TE in fantasy this year. What’s not to like?

McCaffrey is one of the most complete RBs in recent NFL memory - 19 TDs in 2019. Mahomes is the best QB in the NFL right now – 28 TDs in 2019 despite missing 2-3 games. Travis Kelce is the best receiving TE in football – 97 catches, 1200 yards in 2019. The combination of Run CMC and his Chiefs-stack should give DMO’s opponents nightmares all year long.

What I Don’t Like:

Of course DMO got the #1 pick the first year he’s in the league. Of fucking course he does. Don’t like that at all.

Anyways, the heavy investment in RB/QB/TE leaves the cupboard somewhat bare at WR. DJ Moore and Jarvis Landry are good options, but more so in a PPR league. Moore has a new QB in 2020 and Landry is coming off hip surgery, so I’m not sold on this duo. It doesn’t help that Moore and McCaffrey’s production is mutually exclusive.

DMO did add some talent later with Deebo, John Brown and Jamison Crowder, but they all have question marks themselves. Namely injuries, bad QB play, run-focused offenses and competition for targets.

Grade & Prediction:

I give DMO an A- for this draft, about a 90/100. Mahomes, Kelce, McCaffrey is an absurd start to a draft and James Conner at RB2 is big. I have some concerns about his WR group, but that’s the only weakness I can point out on this team.

I predict DMO goes 7-6, gets the bye, and wins the title over Kenny Peabs. If he gets the first overall pick in his first season, then why can’t he win the title in his first season? Would be so typical for this league. Also would be hilarious if he defeated Ken after all the shit he’s given him over the years.
